(Yeah, I'm tomboy)
Look at you (yeah) 넌 못 감당해 날 (uh)
You took (umm) off hook (yeah)

Do you want a blond Barbie doll?
It's not here, I'm not a doll (like this if you can)
미친년이라 말해 what's the loss to me? ya
사정없이 까보라고 you'll lose to me, ya

The lyrics of (G)I-DLE's song Tomboy convey a message of empowerment, self-acceptance and defiance. The song exhibits the girl group's confident and strong persona while urging listeners to break away from societal expectations and be true to themselves. The song speaks of embracing a masculine aura and being comfortable in one's skin, disregarding gender norms and restrictions imposed by society. The lyrics talk about how the members don't want to be pigeonholed as a typical girl who likes All things pink, who listens to vocaloid music or likes to play ping pong. They would rather be seen as themselves, tomboys, who thrive in their community of friends, enjoy dancing and clubbing, and aren't afraid to drink whiskey. The lyrics convey the message that it's okay to be different and be true to oneself.

This is a genius song and genius video tbh. I think most people don't realize the word "tomboy" has a different meaning in Korean than it has in Western countries. A tomboy, in this video, is a woman that does what she wants and doesn't care about other people's opinions, it's a woman who basically acts like a man. Who goes to work, who drinks, who likes to have sex (the rap is censored, the original lyrics are "I like sex on drinking whiskey"), a woman who will dump her boyfriend if he doesn't let her be who she wants to be. Honestly, I think this song is genius if we take into account the context of kpop in Korea, where everything idols do has to be perfect, where they have to be and act a certain way, where they can't even date. G-Idle are setting a pretty nice example with this song!
PS. Let's not forget Soyeon wrote and produced this song, along with almost all other G-Idle songs, and in Korea that's also seen as a man's job! This is basically their story, with an extravagant MV to match!
@hannsh
couldn't say it any better! you're absolutely right here. lots of ppl who hate on this song are not acquainted with korean lifestyle, culture and womens' position here
@allisome3890
Thank you for saying this. Coz some people tend to think of "tomboy" on a western view when in fact its on a in S. Korea pov. 😊
