Every time I'm away from Liza, water come to me eye
[Chorus]
Come back Liza, come back girl
Wipe the tear from me eye
Come back Liza, come back girl
Wipe the tear from me eye
When the evening starts to fall, water come to me eye
I need to hear my liza call, water come to me eye
[Chorus]
Standing here in the marketplace, water come to me eye
I need to see my Liza's face, water come to me eye
[Chorus]
Whenever I'm away from Liza, water come to me eye
Whenever I'm away from Liza, water come to me eye
[Chorus]
The lyrics to Harry Belafonte's song "Come Back Liza" are a classic example of a love song that encapsulates the deep connection two people can feel for each other. The narrative is of the singer who is away from the love of his life, Liza, and whenever he is away from her, he starts to cry. Even when he is in a busy marketplace or walking through the streets at night, he just wants to be with Liza to stop the tears from flowing.
The chorus "Come back Liza, come back girl, wipe the tear from me eye" shows how the singer needs his love to be with him, to give him comfort and make him feel whole. It's a poignant reminder of how much he misses her presence and how much she means to him. The use of the word "girl" shows the affection he has towards her and how she brings out the boy in him.
The beautiful melody and harmonious rhythm of the song help to create a nostalgic feeling. The lyrics, coupled with the music, make the listener relate to the pain of being apart from someone they love. "Come Back Liza" is a timeless classic that shows the purity and depth of love and how it can make a grown man cry.
