Worried About Ray
The Hoosiers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The truth be told, the truth be told
I'm worried about the future holds, the future holds
I'm starting to worry about Ray

The truth be told, the truth be told
I'm worried about the future holds, the future holds
I'm seriously worried about Ray

They say the future's out to get you
You know that I won't let you fall
They say the future's out to get you
You know that I won't let you fall

The truth be told, the truth be told
I'm treading on my tippy toes, my tippy toes
I'm starting to worry about Ray

The truth be told, the truth be told
I'm treading on my tippy toes, my tippy toes
I'm painfully so worried about Ray

They say the future's out to get you
You know that I won't let you fall
They say the future's out to get you
You know that I won't let you fall
No!

They say the future's out to get you
You know that I won't let you fall
They say the future's out to get you
You know that I won't let you fall

The future's out to get you, the future's out to get you, oh
The future's out to get you, the future's out to get you, oh

The truth be told, the truth be told
I'm worried what the future holds, the future holds
I'm so tired of being worried about Ray

Overall Meaning

The Hoosiers' "Worried About Ray" is a song about anxiety towards the future and the unknown. The repeated lines "the future's out to get you" and "I'm worried about Ray" suggest that the singer is overwhelmed by a sense of impending doom. The use of tippy toes and painfully emphasizes the fragility of the singer's mental state. However, despite their own fears, the singer reassures "you know that I won't let you fall." This could suggest that the singer's worry is not entirely self-centered, but also driven by concern for someone named Ray.

The meaning of "Ray" in the song is unclear. It could be a person the singer is concerned for, or it could be a metaphor for a feeling or situation. The lyric "they say the future's out to get you" suggests that the singer is not alone in their beliefs. The song could be interpreted as a reflection of the collective anxiety felt in modern society about the future and the uncertainty of what is to come.

I heard the lead singer was so fed up with comments about him looking like Ben stiller,he decided to give up music.

He now follows his other passions by working in a museum.

When I was a kid watching this clip on MTV, I thought the lead singer was Ben Stiller. I told all my friends what a talented man he was. Since then the song has been stuck in my head and I come back to it when times are hard for me to remember my childhood. Thank you Hossiers.
