My brother struggled for 8 years with a heroin addiction. He will be 5 years sober in July. This song used to make me cry with sadness. It still brings tears to my eyes but they are now tears of relief, joy, and pride for my brother overcoming his demons. For anyone out there struggling, recovery is not impossible and it does get better 💙

90s is a decade smacked in the middle between the old and the new world. It was absolutely beautiful, full of wonder, anticipation and adventure. You get to touch a little bit of everything. I spent most of my life dealing with alcohol addiction. When this song came out, it really hit home. I know it's about heroin, but it's still one of those songs that really hit home. I've been sober a few years now. It's never easy, especially with mental health issues. But I'm still alive and kicking.

Goo Goo dolls were everything back in the day. Every time I hear slide, iris, black balloon etc it takes me right back to my teen years in the late 90s to early 2000s ish. I miss it so much. Late at night I’d have my bf call at an exact time so I could answer it super fast before it even finished the first ring! So my mom wouldn’t wake up and lecture me. I lost a best friend to a car accident and another good friend in the same accident. I was almost going to be in the car with them but changed my mind last second. This song reminds me of her so much. I always wonder if she would have gotten swallowed up by addiction like the rest of our small city did. Our city was and is cursed. I lost 9-10 friends before we were 23 and in a city you could walk across in an hour. I miss her all the time and when I hear this song I always think of her. Heroin was rampant for us back in the 90's and it only got worse. Now it's everywhere but we had it bad long before it got really bad.

My best friend Tara passed away a year ago in May 2020, she died of an OD. I miss her everyday. I saw her the day before she died, when I listen to this song, I feel her, I miss her, I wish I could have done something more to have stopped her that day for doing the drug of her choice. “Baby’s black balloon makes her fly...” May she Rest In Peace. I’m not sure why I relate this to a lost love I had. Someone who truly understood me and saw me for what I was. I didn’t know how to accept her love since all of my relationships before were dramatic. Not that I craved drama but that’s what I thought love was growing up as a kid. From seeing my mom and step dad and their fights. I pushed her away and even after that I contacted her to apologize months later. I don’t know why I didn’t pursue her more. She truly was amazing. Don’t let people tell you who you should love either. Sadly, I let people throw in their comments and listened to their crap and I lost the best woman I ever met. She valued her time with me. She made time with me. I’ve never had a woman put herself out like that. I remember coming back from Utah one day and stopping at a Jack in Box outside of Vegas, Boulder City to be exact. This song came on and for some reason it made me think of her. Plus she was probably like 10-15 miles away from me in Vegas. I truly wish I would’ve pursued her again but I thought I would hurt her again. If only I was completely honest I think her and I would’ve been fine. I was so scared to let her in that I let her go. I always think of her with this song for some reason(no we weren’t into drugs) just something about this song that made me think of her. Every time I hear “And I’ll become what you became to me.” I tear up thinking how great she was. How she was is what I wanna be. I truly wish her the best in life.
