The 59th Street Bridge Song
Simon & Garfunkel Lyrics

Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feeling groovy
Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy

Hello lamppost, what'cha knowing
I've come to watch your flowers growin'
Ain't you got no rhymes for me?
Doo-ait-n-doo-doo, feeling groovy
Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy

I got no deeds to do, no promises to keep
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me
Life, I love you, all is groovy

I jog by forest lawn cemetary almost every morning and stop and watch when graves are dug and I always sing these lines to myself:
I've got no deeds to do
No promises to keep
I'm dappled and drowsy
And ready to sleep
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me
Life I love you
All is groovy

I told my wife I want these words on my headstone

You were raised just right!

I saw Paul Simon in concert about 15 years ago and (at 24). It was in Manhattan but I forget the exact venue. Wasn't Hammerstein.

I was the youngest person in the audience. I was asked by a good dozen folks how I knew so many songs. I proudly replied, simply, "Mom and Dad." Many approving nods followed, with a few "Where are they?"

"Home and jealous as Hell!"

There were no follow-up questions.

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.

Ba da, Ba da, Ba da, Ba da...Feelin' Groovy.

Hello lamp-post, What cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.

I've got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.

I remember back in 72 as a five year old my brother and sister singing this song in Chior. Forty five years later as my brother was hospitalized and near death my sister sang the song to him again. Some things just stick to you you know.

Oh wow. Powerful, sweet.

I was also 5 years old in '72. My oldest brother is 12 years older than me and he played this often.

@michael morales so sorry Michael, it's so hard to lose
someone you love.💙You know where he is and when you rendezvous with him again you will both know the joy of reunion!
Together again! For now, you can spend time with and make memories with your loved ones, so that you'll be able to get your brother caught up with where
you've been and what you've been doing. Blessings! Michael

He passed away. Battled for a long time but in the end he just wanted to go home to be with God.

Great song and great drumming by the old-time jazz master of Dave Brubeck's quartet, the one and only Joe Morello.
