Panda
Mew Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Saw the candy turn to corn
Well, it's like the morning's born
And I'll try to like horses
And I'll try to like horses
Now I'm there, you didn't know
Try to think about the snow
Don't be riding over me
'Cause you are all that I can see
I'll try to like horses
And I'll try to like horses

I'll be glad with Andy Pandy
Feed the horses with your candy
I'm the stray cat on your roof
Clap your hands and lift your hoof
And I'll try to like horses

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Mew's "Panda" are symbolic and metaphorical, and seem to have multiple meanings. At the beginning of the song, the singer talks about candy turning into corn, which can be interpreted as a transition from something sweet and easy to something more substantial and perhaps difficult. This is compared to the morning's birth, which can be seen as a new beginning or a fresh start. The singer then talks about trying to like horses, which can be interpreted in many ways. Horses can represent many things, such as strength, freedom, or beauty. However, the singer is not quite sure how to feel about horses, as they repeat the line "I'll try to like horses" throughout the song. This could symbolize a struggle with or resistance to change, or an attempt to embrace something new and unfamiliar.

Later in the song, the singer addresses someone directly, saying "Don't be riding over me / 'Cause you are all that I can see." This could be interpreted as a plea for attention or recognition, or as a warning against being overshadowed or controlled by someone else. The singer then mentions Andy Pandy, who is a character from a British children's television show. This could be a reference to innocence or childhood, or a nostalgic yearning for simpler times. The singer ends the song by saying "Clap your hands and lift your hoof," which could represent a call to action or celebration.

This is imo the most beautiful song Mew has ever made and I have loved every single song I've heard from them. This one's lyrics are something so close to my heart I can't take it, this just proves that Jonas is a genius.
