Merci .

@macadavy

Awesome!  The best version of this song I've ever heard!

Uncle Al was extraordinary with a great tenor voice, often favorably compared to Burl Ives. He chose folksinging after serving in the Canadian army in WW2 and recorded many traditional folk songs from all parts of canada which he reinterpreted on his Sunday radio show for The Molson Hour . His own weekly program was called Folk Songs for young folk and must have been broadcast from 1950 to about 1960. He wrote and recorded that dearly loved song for kids entitled " I know an old lady who swallowed a fly". He then starred in an early Canadian TV show entitled "Radisson and Groseillier" where he played the role of the Huron chief. He visited some of the most remote areas in Canada including Newfoundland, Labrador and Baffin Island . He brought us some fabulous presents carved by the Innuit.
My older brother aged 8, and I aged 5 were photographed on his first album cover. Unfortunately he and his wife Bernie could not have children so we were appropriate stand-ins when needed. His biggest triumph was an album recorded with Helene (?) Baillargeon in about 1960. After he passed away his musical recordings were bequeathed to the National Archives of Canada, and some can still be found on Folkways Records from teh Smithsonian.

@fidelity52

Agreed, the very best version, superior even to Paul Robson.
