Falls Apart
Sugar Ray Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She falls apart
By herself
No one there to talk or understand
Feels the same
Dries her eyes
Finds herself, opens a door and sighs

People see right through you
Everyone who knows you well
Falls apart
Might as well
Day is long and nothin' is wasted

Run away, run away
Hold you tomorrow but your goin' away
Run away, run away
Hold you tomorrow but you're leavin' today

You walk alone
By yourself
There's the sound, nothin' is changin'
They've gone away
Left you there
Emptiness in nothin' you can't share

All those words that hurt you
More than you would let it show
Comes apart
By yourself
Always well but nothing is wasted

Run away, run away
Hold on to you but you're goin' away
Run away, run away
Hold you tomorrow but your leavin' today

Sometimes I feel aroused so I cannot be down
All the time I've been on my owm
Any sound of being here
Time to wastearound a friend
I know where to runaway.
No where to run away yeah!

She falls aprt, no one there
Hold her hand and seems to disappear
Falls apart
Might as well
Day is long and nothin' is wasted

Run away, run away
Hold on to you but your goin' away
Run away, run away
Hold you tomorrow but you're leavin' today

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sugar Ray's song "Falls Apart" convey a sense of loneliness and isolation. The singer depicts a woman who "falls apart" by herself, with no one around to talk or understand her. She tries to dry her tears and find herself, but she cannot share her emptiness with anyone. People who know her well see right through her and the words that hurt her more than anything are hidden from them.

The refrain of "run away" emphasizes the woman’s sense of isolation and desire to escape from her current situation. She walks alone and hears nothing but the sound of her own footsteps. The people who were once around and could have been her emotional support have left her. The singer is trying to hold on to her, but she is going away, regardless of her trying to hold her tomorrow. The woman’s pain is all-consuming and overwhelming as the lyrics suggest, "sometimes I feel aroused so I cannot be down, all the time I've been on my own."

The song reflects on the feelings of shattered relationships and lost connections. The singer's attempt to reassure the woman that her falling apart is only temporary but it is a state of mind that may last longer than expected. The overall tone of the song is one of sadness and regret.
