@Arko I’m a retired cab driver and I had the pleasure of taking Ahmad Jamal from the La font hotel to Blues Alley and Mingus from the Cellar Door to an Arlington Va. hotel. My high school allowed us to bring in music to be played during the lunch hour. I brought in Ahmad Jamal’s at the Pershing But Not For Me.

Thank you so much for this gorgeous posting. Bird touched all of us. Thank God for real jazz, the champagne of music. The gold among the dross. This is so heavenly and feels like the Paris I knew.

Charlie Parker, alma da minha alma.

Bird was truly magical... opening phrase of " April in Paris " is beautiful....

No comments about the beautiful piano solo at 1:45? Freeman does a great job of adding some lyrical harmony

patrick ryan
Charlie Parker makes "April in Paris" truly a jazz standard. 7/2019
Peter Elfant
Bird could blow, no doubt about it and the fact that he was such a strong player with such a virile tone renders the strings complimentery rather than intrusive. It's sad that this music will never regain it's once high status, but like impressionist painting, or symphonic music of the 19th century once it happens there seem to be no repeats.
Kitty Love
I mean, at least there’s jazztronica and jazz fusion. Snarky Puppy is a really good modern fusion band
Kitty Love
^ and Amon Tobin sampled the beginning of this in his song "Stoney Street"
Robert Trindade
It makes me cry 😪 It is so beautiful 😄 I play this Standard on the Guitar 🌞👍❤

Dario Ferni
A giant, it's amazing how it adapts to an unusual orchestral background (for his usual style) while being himself.
Swami Aseem
incredible- honest - really creative and yet understandable for everyone-this.. is.. Jazz...
Cley Cormack
One says that Charlie Parker loved to play with strings and this wonderful recording shows it perfect.
gatodecamapa
Madeline Emanuel
I wasn't even born yet, when this album was recorded, I come to love and appreciate these great Jazz Musicians.

Two weeks ago in New York City. The first day of the 3 day festival the city park performed Charlie Parker classic Charile Parker with strings live. It was a great concert. The Charlie Parker Jazz festival 2012 is every August at two location Marcus Gravey park and topkin park in the east villiage. It is worth your time to go there.
Craig Haynes
I was there and my nephew was on drums. My father is the drummer on this original recording and he also played with Bird at Birdland (opening night and many times thereafter).
Kevin Fr
magnificent!!!
Giovanni Iavarone
Doug Auzene
STILL BETTER at 70 Years Young than the $#@! passing for music today...

Yes, my God ...we need a Jazz Revival...wouldn´t that be great...Get music back in the middle and high schools and get the kids swingin again like the 30´s, 40´s and 50´s..
As for The Bird, he sounds great...and am sorry that I wasn´t able to see him..

Jazz is pretty big in my high school. I mean people don't listen to it on their own, but they enjoy it.

Dang, at my high school the only people who knew of jazz were in the jazz band. I’m here from an electronic artist who sampled from this (look up "Stoney Street" by Amon Tobin if you’re curious), but I like jazz as well

Thanks for uploading this video, I'm a huge fan of Charlie Parker's work.
On a site note, I'm selling a Selmer Reference 54 Hummingbird, Alto Saxophone (Standard Edition) on ebay, and I thought I'd display its sale in relevant places, as it is a collector's item dedicated to Charlie Parker (there are only 200 in the United States). Please message me if interested as I apparently cannot post web addresses in these comments.
Thanks again for the upload.

Nice oboe solo Mitch.

He's playing English Horn, Cor Anglais or the "Oboe's big brother", and pitched lower.

for me jazz should remain as a simple bread and plain water, not gold nor champagne. so that all the people in the world can dig into it, no need to be wealthy and intelligent.
Dennis Struijcken
Muhammad Devanda well they can, but to really enjoy it, it requires full attention. People are on their phones too much!
Amon Tobin sampled from this in his song "Stoney Street!"

It was part if hus genius to be high on heroin at times, to have this kind of gift cone thru. . Sometimes it just is that way. Hendrix liked a different kinda buzz, but, sane theory.
