A Vava Inouva
Idir Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
O fille Ghriba fais tinter tes bracelets
O fille Ghriba fais tinter tes bracelets
O fille Ghriba fais tinter tes bracelets
The song "A Vava Inouva" by Idir tells a story of a father and daughter, Père Inouba and Fille Ghriba, who are afraid of the ogre in the forest. Throughout the song, they ask each other to open the door and make noise with their bracelets to ward off the ogre. The scene changes to a family gathered together while the old man sits apart warming himself in his cloak. The son is worrying about tomorrow's work while the daughter-in-law weaves and the children listen to stories from the older generation. The whole scene is set within a traditional Berber village in the mountains.
The lyrics of the song evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for a simpler time when people worked hard, told stories, and gathered together in the cold winter months. The fear of the ogre in the forest represents the unknown and the dangers that lurk outside of the safety of the village. The song paints a picture of a tight-knit community that relies on each other for safety, warmth, and entertainment.

I can't understand a word and yet I'm crying.
Maybe I lokk silly or childish but this music make me believe that one day all humans will realise they're brothers and sisters.
Thank you and peace to all

The story of this song is that there was an Amazigh girl. After her mother died, and because her father was old, she used to collect firewood and sell it to strangers in order to earn her living and return before the west, because after sunset the beast of the forest comes and knocks on the homes of people who did not turn away after sunset, and one of them imitates his voice and when she opens the door for him. He eats the whole family. One day, the girl was intercepted by bandits who stole her bracelets. When she knocked on the door, she shook them so that her father would know that she was not a forest monster. When she returned home, he could not open the door for her because when he asked her to shake the bracelets, she said that they had been stolen, and he did not have any secrets with his child. As he was confused between his children sitting at home and his daughter who was waiting for him to open the door. A story from our Amazigh heritage that our grandmothers tell us, as the relationship between a father and his children is not just food, but it is deeper than this
