I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home
Grand Funk Railroad Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everybody listen to me
And return me my ship
I'm your captain, I'm your captain
Though I'm feeling mighty sick

I've been lost now for days uncounted
And it's months since I've seen home
Can you hear me? Can you hear me?
Or am I all alone?

If you return me to my home port
I will kiss you Mother Earth
Take me back now, take me back now
To the port of my birth

Am I in my cabin dreaming?
Or are you really scheming
To take my ship away from me?

You'd better think about it
I just can't live without it
So please don't take my ship from me

I can feel the hand of a stranger
And it's tightening around my throat
Heaven help me, Heaven help me
Take this stranger from my boat

I'm your captain, I'm your captain
Though I'm feeling mighty sick
Everybody listen to me
And return me my ship

I'm your captain
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm your captain
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I'm your captain
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm your captain
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home

Same here…
I’m a musician… I bought an almost $300 pair of Sony headphones 🎧 a while back.

For no good reason than I wanted to hear music better.🤷‍♂️

I don’t know what these headphones are made of…

But I’ve never heard music the same way since I got them.

Pure musical perfection.💪👍🥃🎸

A real classic. Grand Funk managed to make this song somehow haunting, dynamic and exhilarating all at the same time.

I can close my eyes when I listen to this song and I feel myself going back to my 16 th year. The sound of summer nights, madly in love with my first boyfriend, the smell of jasmine in the air. I’m 16 again and everything is right in my world., so perfect that when I open my eyes they are full of tears for everything that was lost in the past.

I am much younger than you but this song also brings me memories. I was just a kid sitting next to my 7 year older cousin while he was on the computer showing me rock bands. Takes me back to summer, the sea, no school, just playing in the sun and the smell of sweat, dirt and dry daisies. Then it makes me think when I was a teenager and I fell in a deep sadness, playing this song on my guitar by myself in my room. Grand Funk Railroad is a great band.

It's a song that always takes you back to an easy time in life...
