Wild Horses
Old & In the Way Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can't let you slide through my hands
Wild horses couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
I watched you suffer, a dull, aching pain
Now you've decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild horses couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
I know I've dreamed you a sin and a lie,
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried,
Let's do some living after we die
Wild horses couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day
Wild horses couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day
The song "Wild Horses" by Old & In the Way is a love song that explores the complex emotions of a man towards his lover. The opening lines seem to suggest that the man has had an easy upbringing and was able to provide everything his lover wanted. However, the next line, "Graceless lady you know who I am" hints that there may be underlying tensions in the relationship. He continues to suggest that he cannot let her go, even though she seems to want to leave, as she has been causing him pain.
The chorus of the song, "Wild horses couldn't drag me away", seems to suggest that no matter what happens, he won't let her go. The second verse is more revealing, as the man acknowledges that he may have lied and sinned, but he doesn't have much time left. He acknowledges that their faith may have been broken and that tears must be cried, but he suggests that they should live life to the fullest before it's too late. The final chorus seems to suggest that they will someday ride together, with wild horses as their companion.
Overall, the song is a beautiful portrayal of a man's love for his partner. It explores the complexities of a relationship, acknowledging the pain and suffering but ultimately choosing love and togetherness. It has become a timeless classic that has been covered by numerous artists across different genres.

On America's Got Talent tonight - Susan Boyle singing Wild Horses. Mick Jagger would be proud. But it still doesn't beat this beautiful bluegrass rendition by Old and in the Way - oh yes - that... is the world's BEST man vocalist and my singing idol, Mr. Peter Rowan singing lead. God bless Peter Rowan!
