Get on Your Boots
U2 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The future needs a big kiss
Winds blow with a twist
Never seen a moon like this
Can you see it too?

Night is falling everywhere
Rockets hit the fun-fair
Satan loves a bomb scare
But he won't scare you

Hey, sexy boots
Get on your boots yeah!

Free me from a dark dream
Candy floss, ice cream
All the kids are screaming but the ghosts aren't real
Here's what we gotta be
Love and community
Laughter is eternity if joy is real

You don't know how beautiful
You don't know how beautiful you are
You don't know
You don't get it do you?
You don't know how beautiful you are

If some have stuff to blow it up
We're into growing up
Women are the future
All the big revelations
I got a submarine
You've got gasoline
I don't wanna talk about wars between nations
Not right now

Sexy boots
No no no no
Get on your boots yeah
Not right now
Foxy boots

You don't know how beautiful
You don't know how beautiful
You are
You don't know
You don't get it do you?
You don't know how beautiful you are

Sexy boots
I don't wanna talk about wars between the nations
Sexy boots yeah

Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound sound
Let me in the sound sound
Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound now
Oh God I'm going down
I don't wanna drown now
Meet me in the sound

Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound sound
Let me in the sound sound
Meet me in the sound

Get on your boots
Get on your boots
Get on your boots
Yeah hey hey!
Get on your boots
Yeah hey hey!
Get on your boots
Yeah hey hey!
Get on your boots
Yeah hey hey!

Overall Meaning

The song "Get on Your Boots" by U2 starts by painting a picture of a chaotic world with lines describing winds that blow with a twist and a moon that has never been seen before. The lyrics then take a darker turn as U2 references bombs and terrorism, stating that "Satan loves a bomb scare." However, in the face of this chaos, U2 encourages listeners to keep moving forward and to keep pushing for a better future. The chorus "Hey, sexy boots, get on your boots yeah!" is an anthem to push forward and not give up.

The lyrics turn more hopeful as U2 encourages people to focus on love and community. The references to candy floss and ice cream indicate a sense of innocence, which is contrasted with the harsh realities of the world. U2 reminds listeners that joy can be eternal if it's genuine, prompting listeners to remember the beauty in the world around them.

The final verse references the importance of women and growing up. U2 encourages listeners to focus on the future while remaining grounded in the present, urging them to refrain from discussions of war and instead focus on working towards a more positive and peaceful world.

Overall, "Get on Your Boots" is a message of hope and resilience in times of great turmoil. The song encourages listeners to focus on love, community, and the future, and to not let darkness and chaos dictate their actions.

The future needs a big kiss
Winds blows with a twist
Never seen a moon like this
Can you see it too?

Night is falling everywhere
Rockets at the fun fair
Satan loves a bomb scare
But he won’t scare you

Hey, sexy boots
Get on your boots, yeah

You free me from the dark dream
Candy floss ice cream
All our kids are screaming
But the ghosts aren’t real

Here’s where we gotta be
Love and community
Laughter is eternity
If joy is real

You don’t know how beautiful
You don’t know how beautiful you are
You don’t know, and you don’t get it, do you?
You don’t know how beautiful you are

That’s someone’s stuff they’re blowing up
We’re into growing up
Women of the future
Hold the big revelations

I got a submarine
You got gasoline
I don’t want to talk about wars between nations

Not right now

Hey sexy boots
Get on your boots, yeah
Not right now
Bossy boots

You don’t know how beautiful
You don’t know how beautiful you are
You don’t know, and you don’t get it, do you?
You don’t know how beautiful you are

Hey sexy boots
I don’t want to talk about the wars between the nations
Sexy boots, yeah

@sixstringbuzz

U2, a band of heart and soul,
Their music speaks to us, makes us whole.
From Dublin, Ireland they hail,
Their message, their mission, never stale.

Bono's voice, a powerful force,
The Edge's guitar, its own source.
Adam and Larry hold the beat,
Together, they create a heavenly feat.

Their songs, they tell a story,
Of love, loss, and glory.
With lyrics that cut deep,
Their music is something to keep.

"Sunday Bloody Sunday," a cry for peace,
"One," a reminder, we're all in this lease.
"Pride (In the Name of Love)," a tribute to MLK,
Their songs inspire us to seek a better way.

Through the years, they've evolved,
Their sound, their style, always involved.
But what never changes, their passion,
For music, for justice, for compassion.

So here's to U2, a band of heart and soul,
Their music, a gift that never grows old.
They've left their mark on history,
And for that, we're eternally grateful, you see

I love that they were trying something different. The fast tempo. The strange, dissonant chorus. The trip-hop cut-time section. Very daring and original song!

@nickkabbabe1953

Unfortunately it's lost on some of their traditional fans but yeah as a big fan it to me is just another decent song from a very special band.

@jkm9332

@@nickkabbabe1953 Yeah, agreed.

@sn1ffy85

“Trip hop”? And “original”?

Mmm... yeah, no.

@jkm9332

@@sn1ffy85 are there a lot of other fast-tempo rock songs that have a trip-hop cut-time section?

@fastica

That's NLOTH in a nutshell, he best U2 album since POP IMO. Sadly, it didn't sell well so they went back to making monotonous pop songs.
