Meet Me in the Hallway
Harry Styles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Two, three, four

Meet me in the hallway
Meet me in the hallway
I just left your bedroom
Give me some morphine
Is there any more to do?

Just let me know I'll be at the door, at the door
Hoping you'll come around
Just let me know I'll be on the floor, on the floor
Maybe we'll work it out
I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
And maybe we'll work it out

I walked the streets all day
Running with the thieves
'Cause you left me in the hallway
Give me some more
Just take the pain away

Just let me know I'll be at the door, at the door
Hoping you'll come around
Just let me know I'll be on the floor, on the floor
Maybe we'll work it out
I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
Gotta get better, gotta get better
And maybe we'll work it out

We don't talk about it
It's something we don't do
'Cause once you go without it
Nothing else will do

Overall Meaning

In Harry Style’s song “Meet Me in the Hallway”, the artist is expressing his vulnerability after being left heartbroken by a lover. The lyrics open with the artist asking the lover to meet him in the hallway, ominously implying that they have just exited the bedroom. Styles then asks for morphine, suggesting that he is trying to numb the pain of his breakup. Harry is unsure if there is anything else he can do to deal with the aftermath of the relationship ending.

He then makes a plea for reconciliation, saying that he hopes the lover will come around and meet him at the door or on the floor so that they can work it out. The repetition of “gotta get better” shows his desire to improve and move on from the relationship. In the second verse, the artist describes his lonely days walking the streets all day, trying to escape from his pain by associating with “thieves”. He again asks for something to take the pain away, suggesting that he is struggling to deal with the emotions he is experiencing.

The final verse hints at the difficulties of discussing the relationship and breakup, suggesting that it’s not something they can talk about because they both lack the necessary communication skills or capability. The lyrics end on a poignant note, suggesting that once the relationship is over, nothing else can ever replace it. The song is a powerful portrayal of the complex emotions that come after heartbreak and the attempt to move on.

I think this song is about loosing someone due to cancer/death, like he refers to morphine which is used by a lot of patients with cancer and when he says meet me in the hallway its like waiting outside the door of a hospital room, in the hallway, and he will be there for them... i think it means that because of something i went through and i dont really think its about a breakup... but this song is one of my favorites ❤ and maybe when he changed the lyrics to "he" left me in hallway, he was talking about his stepfather..
