Tapes & Money
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's all lies, you know it
Tell me another one
Look it up, speak truth
I s'pose you're right on time, yes you are
You're always right on time, keep it coming
Why don't you tell me how long, how long now?
I'm sorry I'm out, I'm out of touch
These won't hold me up no longer
I've been working out, you know

It's all lies, it's all lies
It's all lies, it's all lies, it's all lies, it's all
(Feet don't fail me now)
It's the money, it's the money
It's the money, it's the money, it's the money, it's
(Feet don't fail me now)
It's all lies, it's all lies
It's all lies, it's all lies, it's all lies, it's all
(Feet don't fail me now)
It's the money, it's the money
It's the money, it's the money, it's the money, it's

I s'pose you're right on time, yes you are
You're always right on time, keep it coming
Why don't you tell me how long, how long now?
I'm sorry I'm out, I'm out of touch

It's all lies, it's all lies
It's all lies, it's all lies, it's all lies, it's all
(Feet don't fail me now)
It's the money, it's the money
It's the money, it's the money, it's the money, it's
(Feet don't fail me now)
It's all lies, it's all lies
It's all lies, it's all lies, it's all lies, it's all
(Feet don't fail me now)
It's the money, it's the money
It's the money, it's the money, it's the money, it's
(Feet don't fail me now)

It's the money, it's the money,it's the money

Overall Meaning

The song "Tapes & Money" by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs delves into the concept of lies and the pursuit of money in our current society. The repeated lines of "it's all lies" highlight the lack of honesty and trustworthiness that exists within our society, and the plea for someone to "tell me another one" shows a desire for a change in that narrative. The line "it's the money" suggests that perhaps the root of these lies and deceit is the pursuit of wealth, and the constant need for more money. The line "feet don't fail me now" emphasizes the urgency and importance of not getting stuck in this cycle and moving forward towards something more genuine.

The repeated lines of "I s'pose you're right on time, yes you are / You're always right on time" suggest a feeling of predictability and perhaps even complacency. There is a sense of resignation in "I'm sorry I'm out, I'm out of touch" as if the singer has given up on trying to stay connected or relevant in this world of lies and money.

Overall, "Tapes & Money" serves as a critique of our society's infatuation with wealth and the lies and deceit that often accompany it.

First heard this in 2012, on the playlist in River Island - of all places. Instantly obsessed. Assistant hadn't a clue who it was. The only thing I had to go on was the sample of George Clinton's 'One Nation Under a Groove' - the 'feet don't fail me now' lyric. Online, some obliging soul furnished me with the answer. Bought the album. Played it constantly: it got me through a summer of loss and grief. Thank you, Mr Dinosaur x
