Eurydice
Sleepthief Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I know it's over
But life goes on
And this old world will keep on turning
Let's just be glad
We had some time to spend together
There's no need to watch the bridges
That were burning
Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body
Close to mine
Hear the whisper of the rain drops
Blowing soft against the window
And make believe you love me
One more time
For the good times
I'll get along
You'll find another
And I'll be here
If you should find you ever need me
Don't say a word about tomorrow
Or forever
There'll be time enough for sadness
When you leave me
Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body
Close to mine
Hear the whisper of the rain drops
Blowing soft against the window
And make believe you love me
One more time
The lyrics to Sleepthief's song Eurydice speak of a past love that has ended and the acceptance that life must go on. The first stanza addresses the end of a relationship, acknowledging that it is over, but expressing the need to be happy that they had the time to spend together. The second stanza is a plea for the physical comfort that was once shared, asking the listener to lay their head on the pillow and hold their warm and tender body close to the singer's. The lyrics describe the setting as calm, with the whispers of raindrops against the window, and they ask the listener to make believe they love the singer one more time, for the good times.
The final stanza expresses the hope that both parties will find another and the promise to be there if the other should ever need them. The lyrics suggest not thinking about tomorrow or the future, as there will be enough time for sadness when the time comes to leave. The comfort and memories of their past love are all that matter in that moment.
Overall, the lyrics of Eurydice speak to the bittersweet nature of love and the acceptance and comfort that can come from acknowledging its end.
