Room To Move
Climie Fisher Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know it seems like I'm a million miles away
At times you feel like you don't even know me
But in this world the pressures building everyday
And I need time to work things out, oh baby

It's not that I don't love you, oh no
It's just that I've got to have

Room to move, that's all I need
That's all I ask for, room to breathe
Room to move, that's all I need
That's all I ask for, give it to me
Room to move, everybody needs room to move

Everybody needs some freedom to survive
To shake the chains of responsibility
And you can help me make this feeling come alive
'Cos when you hold me dose that's when you set me free

Girl you know I'll always love you, oh yeah
'Cos when we touch, I get so much

Room to move, that's all I need
That's all I ask for, room to breathe
Room to move, that's all I need
That's all I ask for, give it to me
Room to move, everybody needs
Room to move, everybody needs, room to breathe
Everybody needs

You lose your mind if you don't take time
You cross that line and your mind explodes
You push too hard and your feelings starve
Emotions are all destroyed

Girl you know I'll always love you, oh yeah
'Cos when we touch I get so much

Room to move, that's all I need
That's all I ask for, room to breathe
Room to move, that's all I need
That's all I ask for, give it to me

Room to move, that's all I need
That's all I ask for, room to breathe
Room to move, that's all I need
That's all I ask for, give it to me

Room to move (everybody needs)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Room to Move" by Climie Fisher explore the theme of the need for personal space and freedom within a romantic relationship. The singer acknowledges that at times, he may seem distant or closed off from his partner, but explains that this is not a lack of love or a desire to distance himself from her. Rather, he explains that the pressures of life can weigh heavily on him, and that he needs time and space to work through his challenges and find his own center.

The song paints a picture of the delicate balance that exists between two people in a relationship. Both partners need the space to pursue their individual goals and interests, but at the same time, they also need the connection and intimacy that comes with being close to someone else. The singer implies that when he is given the "room to move" that he needs, he is able to come back to his partner feeling refreshed and energized, better able to give her the love and attention that she deserves.

One interpretation of the lyrics is that the song is a plea for understanding from the singer's partner. He may feel guilty for needing space from her, but at the same time, he knows that it is important for him to have that space to be the best partner that he can be. By acknowledging his partner's needs and expressing his desire for his own space, he is hoping to create a more open and honest relationship where both partners are free to grow and thrive as individuals.

when I was young and (very) stupid I payed too much attention to the superb singers Cynthia Rhodes & Paul Engemann instead of focusing on the song's tempo (generally tempo is more important than who has better voice).
you can't blame me for that (means you can!) 'cause I was dazzled...the harmony they had together, doing such a catchy song, very danceable, add to all those facts the film
My Stepmother Is An Alien it appears on, and you got a MAINSTREAM listener (it's I I'm telling story about in case you got lost).
it took me some time to understand the expression OVER-PRODUCED.
once I realized the meaning of those two connected words,
the ugly chick became a beautiful swan (TOP listener) :-)
put in other words all that mumbo-jumbo: this original version is million times better than Animotion's wonderful cover.
gee...I'm tired, what a "life story", what a waste of energy, who's gonna read such a long comment, who will understand...? :(

What a great band and brilliant song!!! Best version by far

@forestfc

Best version of the song hands down. The album Everything is an 80's classic and was one I heard my family playing all the time. This song always stood out for me from the album. Weakest track, the damn hip hop mix of Rise To The Occasion
