Babaji
Supertramp Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All of my life I felt that you were listening
Watching for ways to help me stay in tune
Lord of my dreams, although confusion
Keeps trying to deceive
What is it that makes me believe in you?

Babaji, oh won't you come to me
Won't you help me face the music
Bring it out so we can sing it out
Help me to find it before we lose it

At night when the stars are near
And there's no one to keep you from coming here
And there's no one to shield me before your eyes
Is it mine, is it mine, is it mine to know?

I can see it's not too good to me
To be afloat in the sea of glory
Babaji, oh how you comfort me
By showing me it's a different story

Your light in the dark is real
And I know that you know it is how I feel
When I see the reflections that's in your eyes
Is it mine, is it mine, is it mine to know?

Babaji, have you a song for me
To tell the world of its guardian angel
Bring it out so we can sing it out
Oh must you always remain a stranger?

At night when the stars are near
And I long for delusion to disappear
The I see the reflection that's in your eyes
Is it time, is it time, is it time to know

Overall Meaning

In this song, the singer is addressing Babaji, a spiritual teacher or guru, and expressing gratitude for his presence in his life. Although confusion and doubt persist, the singer believes in Babaji and asks for his help in facing the music, finding his place in the world, and singing it out.

Throughout the song, the singer sees Babaji as a source of comfort and guidance who brings a different perspective to his situation. Babaji's light in the dark is real and the reflections in his eyes help the singer see things in a different way. However, despite feeling close to Babaji, the singer still longs for more knowledge and understanding of his role in the world.

Babaji Lyrics :

All of my life I felt that you were listening
Watching for ways to help me stay in tune
Oh Lord of my dreams, although confusion
Keeps trying to decieve
Oh what is it that makes me believe in you?

Oooooooh, I know I know I know I know
Ouh yeah!

Babaji
Oh won't you come to me
Oh won't you help me to face the music
Bring it out
So we can sing it out
Help us to find it before we lose it

At night when the stars are near
And there's no one to keep you from coming here
And there's no one to shield me before your eyes
Is it mine, is it mine, is it mine to know?

I said that I can see
It's not too good for me
To be afloat in the sea of glory

Oh Babaji
Oh how you comfort me
By showing me it's a different story

Your light in the dark is real
And I know that you know it is how I feel
When I see the reflection that's in your eyes
Is it mine, is it mine, is it mine to know?

Babaji, oh no vienes a mí

Babaji, oh cómo me consuelo

Never in a million years would I have ever expected SUPERTRAMP (of all 70's bands!) to write a prema-bhakti bhajan to the King of all Yogis; Yogiraj Mahavatar Babaji Trambaka Baba. Either way, I am impressed and touched, as I imagine Babaji as well is.

@mrpreparedallthetime1099

I haven't a clue what this song is about. I'm terribly sorry for the ignorance. But when my father got custody of me in the early 70's I remember hearing this band. And too this day, they're still one of the best bands of all time. I love the interviews.

@maxmonroe9461

Well yeah, I guessed you could say that, say my name for instant blessing

@joehamiltonsongs

Fantastic Roger, fantastic performances by the band. Siebenberg is the most underrated drummer of all time.
