Patio Song
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well isn't it a lovely day
Oh, I'm feeling all brand new
Well isn't it a lovely day
Oh, boating on sunday with you

And if you really want to kiss her
Just go right up and tell her
Oh, isn't it a lovely day for love

Well isn't it a lovely day
Oh, my patio's on fire
Well isn't it a lovely day?
Oh no, words are wisdomd from liars

And if you really want to kiss her
Just go right up and tell her
Oh, isn't it a lovely day for

Mae'n bwrw glaw
So dal fy llaw
Ond mae'r gaeaf mor hir
Mae'n cymryd gormod or tir

Dal fy llaw
Mae'n bwrw glaw
Ond mae'r gaeaf mor hir
Mae'n cymryd gormod or tir

It's raining
So hold my hand
But the winter's so long
It takes too much of the land

Hold my hand
It's raining
But the winter's so long
It takes too much of the land

Overall Meaning

The first part of the song starts off with a positive note about the lovely day, and feeling refreshed and happy. This positivity is then contrasted with the second verse where the patio is on fire, and the wisdom that comes from words of liars. This verse has a more negative tone, indicating that the beauty of life can be easily destroyed by negative acts and opinions. The chorus repeats itself again, emphasizing the idea of telling someone you love them if you really want to.

The "Mae'n bwrw glaw" verse is in Welsh, and is a reflection of the long, cold winters experienced in Wales. The lyrics are about holding hands during the rain and getting through this period of time together. This verse adds an interesting cultural element to the song, as it incorporates a language that is not widely known or spoken.

Overall, the song seems to emphasize the importance of positivity and love, but also the fragility of life and how easily it can be destroyed.

So good 👍
Holy crap, I just discovered this band today, February 18, 2023, after someone posted in a Facebook Indie Rock group about seeing them live in the 90's. Just out of curiosity about the strange band name, I decided to look them up on YouTube and now I've been listening to them all morning. Listening to every song available by them. I grew up in the 90's but never heard of them because I'm in the US. So many wonderful bands out there that people in the US have never even heard of. Better late then never I suppose.

If it's any consolation, I'm Welsh born and raised, lived here all but 4 years of my life, and just found this band on accident myself whilst a randomised youtube mix was playing! They managed to go under my radar for nearly 24 years, it's a feat enough you found them!
If you've not heard it already, I love the vibe of Merched Y Neud Gwallt Eu Gilydd, reminds me of bands like Jellyfish and Pavement:)

I remember singing my version of the end of this song to a girl in uni who's first language was Welsh, at the end of which she said "sorry, that was complete gibberish."
