Madness and obsession in song form. Nothing I've heard like it. That frantic nature and the intensity of each chorus repetition. It's profound: All the worst of humanity....hate, obsession...and the best including beauty...stems from love. Love can be beautiful as it can be deadly.

I have never seen Peaky Blinders have always listened to Nick Cave. Saw him llive about four years ago and it was phenomenal. He didn't perform Curse of Millhaven or Christina the Astonishing. However he did this one This song still sounds current so raw,atmospheric and plain sexy.I still love the video. Cave is a gifted story teller much like Leonard Cohen was. I've only ever heard and loved the Metallica version until today - James Hetfield's voice is lush. I love Nick Cave's emotion when he sings and have just listened to his version. Much more emotional and visceral than Metallica. But still, in a fight between the voices of James and Nick ...... who would win? As a lifelong Metallica fan it would have to be ......... Nick!

personally i enjoy the metallica one even more. the longer length gives it more development and the sound feels so much more encasing even at the same quality, and james hetfield's southern accent added with inflection adds an even more macabre feeling.

I think any dispute of Nick Cave’s place as one of the best ever in music is pretty much ridiculous at this point, and if you don’t believe me, go and listen to Ghosteen (or any song off of it, really; it’s all amazing) after this and try explaining to me how this and that come from the same person if that person is anything less than one of the greats of music history. Nick Cave has made the ugly beautiful, the beautiful ugly; brought out the darkness of any topic he chooses; and yet is capable of finding profound hope in the depths of true darkness.

I think the best thing you could say in terms of comparing this to the metallica cover is that they're both pretty great but achieve a slightly different outcome in two very different ways. this one is more like describing a true demon and speaking as it during the spelling. the vibe is twisted and sick. the metallica version gets the tension of being a victim waiting to be pounced on at any moment broken up by moments of violence. it's just a damn good song either way.
