Strange Meadow Lark
The Dave Brubeck Quartet Lyrics

[Instrumental]

Overall Meaning

As the lyrics are instrumental and contain no words, one way to interpret the meaning is through the music itself. "Three to Get Ready" is a jazz instrumental piece that is playful and dynamic in its composition. The song has a lively and upbeat rhythm, featuring intricate and syncopated melodies from each instrument in the quartet. The piano, drums, bass and saxophone all come together to create a seamless and harmonious sound that is both complex and accessible.

The song's title suggests a sense of anticipation or preparation, which is reflected in the music. The quartet plays with a sense of urgency, conveying the feeling that something exciting is about to happen. The title also references the idea of a group coming together to accomplish something, as implied in the phrase "two's company, three's a crowd." It may signify a sense of camaraderie and collaboration, as each instrument works in tandem to create a cohesive and dynamic sound.

There's good music for driving. And good music for fighting. And plenty of really good music for loving. But this - this is music for listening.

Brubeck is not the greatest jazz pianist in jazz (he would agree), but he has a unique talent to compose on the spot (improvise) very catchy tunes. No wonder this record was a hit. Paul Desmond is one of the best alto players ever. He is both meticulous in his playing as well as share Brubeck's talent in composing on the spot very catchy music. I can whistle the entire record from memory.

Eugene Wright, bassist, always there doing an outstanding job. Taken for granted. Huge respect.

@Raiden I had not heard that; thank-you, Raiden. Rest in peace, Mr. Wright. May God bless you richly.

Agreed. He had a great sense of accompaniment. He never tried to compete with the soloists and outlined exactly what was needed. Thank you, Eugene 😊🎶🎵🙏🏻

Raiden

He passed away the 30th of December 2020, sadly
