Lost River
Murder By Death Lyrics

I know a place where a body can hide
Oh, I know a place where a body can hide
Last time I saw you, our table was bare
If you hurry & join me, I will lead you there
Oh, sink beneath the water, sink in to the deep
In a pond just off the road that feeds this muddy creek
Oh, in a pond just off the road that feeds this muddy creek
Though my days are over
You know where I'll be
Swim that lost river to me
Though my days are done
The waters will always run
Swim that lost river to me
Though I'm gone, don't be afraid
Will meet again on the river someday
The croak of the frogs will lead you true
Wear a skirt of greenstone, so I know it's you
Wear a skirt of greenstone to drag you to the blue
Though my days are over
You know where I'll be
Swim that lost river to me
Though my days are done
The waters will always run
Find that la-la-lost river, find me
Lay your head on the river bed
Drink from the river and find your way to me
Oh, rest your head on the river bed
Drink from the river and find your way to me
Oh, lay your head on the river bed
Drink from the river and find your way to me
Oh, rest your head on the river bed
Drink from the river and find your way to me
Oh, drink from the river and find your way to me
Oh, drink from the river and find your way to me
Oh, drink from the river
"Lost River" by Murder by Death is a haunting and eerie song with dark undertones. The lyrics appear to describe a conversation between two individuals, one of whom is dead or dying, and the other who is trying to help them hide their body. The singer of the song describes a place where a body can be hidden, a pond just off the road that feeds a muddy creek. The overall tone of the song is one of longing and desperation, as the singer asks the other person to swim the lost river to them and lays out specific instructions on how to find them.
As the song progresses, the singer seems to comfort the other person, assuring them that they will be together again someday. The phrase "swim the lost river to me" is repeated throughout the song, and it appears to represent a spiritual journey or a journey to the afterlife. The final lines of the song are repeated several times, with the singer urging the other person to drink from the river and find their way to them. The song is a haunting and beautiful meditation on the nature of death and the human desire to escape it.

I met a girl at a subway on my lunch break and it was one of the rare times I had it in me to talk to a stranger. I picked her up later that night on my motorcycle and took her to a bridge that lead to a nice little peninsula in a river. We talked by the water for the better part of four or five hours. She showed me this beautiful song along with several others. Nothing came of it after that night but it's such a fond memory. If you're out there seeing this, thank you for a night I won't forget and music I'll always love.

Listened to this hundreds of times after my grandpa died 3 years ago at the age of 69, thinking of my grandmother left alone after 40 years of being together. He had been slowly declining, battling pulmonary fibrosis, and emphysema, wasting away into nothing. He was the only true father figure I ever had, and it’s still incredibly difficult not having him here. This song helped get me through, and still does.

I was listening to this song when I heard the news that an old friend took his own life. I'll always think of him when I listen to it. It's beautiful.

I'm sorry to read this, and I have experienced similar.. but I'm glad you have a song to accompany him into his peace.

My fiance took his life too, something that never leaves your soul. Sorry for the loss of your friend.
