El barco
José Capmany Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The song "El Barco" by José Capmany is a powerful ballad about the struggle of leaving one's home and country behind to fight for a cause, told through the metaphor of a ship journey. The lyrics describe the departure from home, with people waving farewell as the ship sets sail. The singer is a soldier, who feels like an instrument of his land and has to fight to bring down walls and reach an ideal place. However, despite being part of the journey, he never wanted to get on the ship, perhaps because of a sense of doubt or fear.

As the journey progresses, the ship encounters obstacles like storms and sea monsters, but ultimately lands in a foreign place. The singer feels insignificant in the vastness of the new place, and the feeling of triumph turns into uncertainty and strangeness. Some of the people decide to return in the ship, but the singer decides to stay and embrace the strange new land, even if he never wanted to get on the ship in the first place.

The lyrics of "El Barco" are rich in imagery and metaphor, inviting the listener to reflect on the theme of feeling out of place and what it means to fight for a cause. The song has become a classic in Latin American music and is still relevant today, especially in the context of migration and displacement.

@imjustduckinaround

Pruebe a ver qué tal ;)
