There's No Penguins In Alaska
Chiodos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Woo!)
She loves me, she loves me not.
My love was my decay.
She loves me, she loves me not.
He repeated to himself over and over.
These petals decide what's next for you and I

Never resting time, leads summer on, leads summer on.
Never resting time, leads summer on, leads summer, on.

The worst was, the worst was this

My love was (My decay) my love was
My love was (My decay) my love was

Finding oneself in such murderous shame,
Playing roulette with a flower,
Mislead devotion into seclusion.

Devotion

Scream loud as you want to.
There's no way they can hear you.

Never resting time, leads summer on, leads summer on.
Never resting time, leads summer on, leads summer,
Never resting time, leads summer on, leads summer on.
Never resting time, leads summer on, leads summer, on.

I'll stop,
Stabbing,
When you stop,
Screaming

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Chiodos's song "There's No Penguins In Alaska" are a mix of heartbreak, delusion, and obsession. The song appears to be about a man who is struggling with his love for someone who does not return that love. He is playing a game of love and chance, picking petals from a flower to determine if his love interest loves him back. He repeats "she loves me, she loves me not" over and over, seemingly in a desperate attempt to understand his situation.

As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the man is deeply unhappy and possibly suffering from mental health issues. He describes his love as a decay and appears to be consumed by his obsession with this person. He talks about secluding himself and playing Russian roulette with a flower, demonstrating a level of danger and instability that suggests he may be a danger to himself or others. The man is unable to let go of his love, even as it destroys him.

The song's chorus, which repeats the line "never resting time, leads summer on," seems to be a metaphor for the unrelenting passage of time and how it can feel like summer never ends, even when we are experiencing pain and heartbreak. The song ends with the haunting line "I'll stop stabbing when you stop screaming," suggesting that the man is willing to hurt others in order to cope with his own pain.

I'm 31 years old and this song still goes as hard as it did when I was 15. Sometimes I get drunk and reminisce. I hated that age but I loved it. Sometimes I wish I could go back. Shit was complicated but nothing like being an adult.

Ah the memories flooding in. Being a 7 year old kid hearing this album for the first time. Thanks to my dad. He took me to see Chiodos and From First to Last in October of 2006 at SOMA. I was on my dads shoulders singing this and I remember Craig Owens spotted me and made the comment after the song that This little kid was singing every word. This album has a everlasting mark on my childhood.🤟🏼

smeagol it was a good time man!!! I remember it well! (Surprising considering my age) Whats funny is I knew both bands and Loved both bands but I was actually there to see from first to last. Ill never forget the moment sonny saw me and flipped out. My dad took me to the back bc of the crowd, hardcore dancers, etc. didnt want me getting hurt. In the back I remember there were little windows the other bands could look out of on the top floor. I remember seeing Sonny and him making eye contact with me and im pretty sure he said something like “What the fuck!?” Im sure it shocked alot of people that a little kid was at this show hahahaha! And I had only seen them twice... first time was this time and the next was during the Brenden Bolmer era in 2011.
