All The Stars
Kendrick Lamar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love, let's talk about love
Is it anything and everything you hoped for?
Or do the feeling haunt you? (Haunt)
I know the feeling haunt you (Haunt)

This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer
This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer

Tell me what you gon' do to me
Confrontation ain't nothin' new to me
You can bring a bullet, bring a sword, bring a morgue
But you can't bring the truth to me
Fuck you and all your expectations
I don't even want your congratulations
I recognize your false confidence and calculated promises all in your conversation
I hate people that feel entitled
Look at me crazy 'cause I ain't invite you
Oh, you important?
You the moral to the story, you endorsing?
Motherfucker, I don't even like you
Corrupt a man's heart with a gift
That's how you find out who you dealin' with
A small percentage, who I'm building with
I want the credit if I'm losing or I'm winning
On my momma, that's the realest shit

Love, let's talk about love
Is it anything and everything you hoped for?
Or do the feeling haunt you? (Haunt)
I know the feeling haunt you (Haunt)

This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer
This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer

Skin covered in ego
Get to talkin, I get involved, like a rebound
No control, no off switch
And the way that you bringin' me down
It's a turn on, get it away from me
Know you mean wrong, keep away from me
And it sound wrong, get it away from me, yeah
I ain't just cry for no reason
I ain't just pray for no reason
I just thank for the life, for the days, for the hours
And another life breathin'
I did it all 'cause it feel good
You'd leave it all if it feel bad
Better live your life
We were running out of time

Love, let's talk about love
Is it anything and everything you hoped for?
Or do the feeling haunt you? (Haunt)
I know the feeling haunt you (Haunt)

This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer
This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer
All the stars are closer

Overall Meaning

Kendrick Lamar's song "All The Stars" is a powerful and emotional reflection on love and its impact on our lives. The lyrics suggest that love can be both fulfilling and haunting, and that it's important to acknowledge both aspects of it. The phrase "all the stars are closer" is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the idea that this particular moment is significant and could provide clarity or insight into the singer's relationship with love.

The song also tackles themes of confrontation, entitlement, and authenticity. Kendrick asserts his independence and self-worth, refusing to let others define him or control him. He even suggests that some people are corrupt and manipulative, capable of using gifts to sway others.

The chorus of the song introduces the concept of stars, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for hope, guidance, or transcendence. This idea reinforces the notion that love can be both uplifting and difficult, and that we must look to something greater than ourselves to navigate it.

Overall, "All The Stars" is a poignant and thought-provoking song that encourages listeners to confront their own feelings about love and face them head-on.

King T'challa has died
Now I know he is Chadwick Boseman, the actor who brought a quiet dignity and slow-burning intensity to the Jackie Robinson story. And the drive and will to survive to the James Brown story that both humanized and showed the depth and deprivation of James Brown the man, the human being.

I've have been trying to piece together WHY Chadwick Boseman's death, at such a young age, has gutted me so. I mean I did not know him, personally, but I knew him. He embodied the dream.

He took an adult kid who loves superheroes to a world where people who look like me had never been stuffed in the hull of slave ships laying head to feet in their own filth, filled with terror. A world where we had never been bridled like beast to work in the hot sun. A world where our children had never been taken from us like puppies never to know the name, the face, or smell of their parents, like my great, great grandfather.

He took us to a place where our lives had always mattered and our narrative was not a forgotten aside but the center of the story. When the lights in the theater went dark and we saw Wakanda we saw a world we could only dream about. Not because of its futuristic look or it's amazing vibranium but because it was a world in which our intellect, our beauty our flourishing was still intact. Where we had never known the fear of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The humiliation of being forced off the street and sent in the back door. A world where we were the good guys and the bad guys, a world where we were free and human and that world was fucking fantasy.

And so that's why Chadwick Boseman's death has gutted me so. And I am gutted because his young beautiful, smart black life has ended too soon. I feel for his family and friends and for all of us. I am also angered that the filthy mouth of hate continues to spew in this world while Chadwick's light is transformed into the plane of the ancestors. And I pray that it is true that, "all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose."

WAKANDA FOREVER AND EVER
