Fifteen Years Ago
Conway Twitty Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I saw a man today who said he talked to you
Not so long ago I think a month or two
As my mind raced back in time
I prayed oh Lord don't let it show
He thinks I forgot you fifteen years ago

Fifteen years ago and I still feel the same
Why did he have to mention your name
I'm as broken up inside as if it's been a week or so

Takes a mighty strong love to keep a man thinking of
A girl he hasn't seen since fifteen years ago

I've got a lovely wife who thinks the world of me
Promised her my love through all eternity
I've tried hard to make her happy and so far she doesn't know
I can't shake this thing of fifteen years ago

Fifteen years ago and I still feel the same
Why did he have to mention your name
I'm as broken up inside as if it's been a week or so

Takes a mighty long time to get a real love off your mind
I know I've tried since fifteen years ago

Overall Meaning

Conway Twitty's song Fifteen Years Ago is a poignant and emotional track about lost love and the enduring pain of heartbreak. The song tells the story of a man who sees someone who claims to have recently spoken to his former flame. Memories of his past relationship come rushing back to him, and he struggles to keep his feelings hidden from the person he's talking to. The man reflects on how he hasn't forgotten his lost love, even after fifteen years, and that he's tried his best to move on but still feels the same way about her. I was fortunate enough to see Conway perform in Concert. It was back in the '70's. Enjoyed it immensely.

Oh my, this reminds me so much of my dad. He's been gone 18 years now, and I still feel the same. I love and miss him so much. He loved country music - this kind, not the new stuff. I grew up listening to Conway, George, Johnny, Loretta, Patsy; all the greats. Love this so much.

Conway was not one of the best country music singers. He was THE BEST EVER. !!! I’m now 75 years old and I still love to listen to him sing !! What was his best song ?? There wasn’t just one. They were ALL the best. From his first country song to his last there was never a bad one !!My husband and my mom and dad all liked his music and singing. He may be gone but he won’t be forgotten!!!

My girl was Barbara. All through high school a little while after. That was 1963 and she still has a place in my heart. A dream unfulfilled.

LOVE ANY SONG BY CONWAY❀

@legalvol

I saw Conway in early 1993 in Knoxville, TN and he put on a fantastic show. He was with George Jones and Merle Haggard and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I'll never forget he had on the blue suit with the pink shirt. When he came out singing "Hello Darling" the crowd went crazy. And George opened, and was 30 minutes early.

There is nothing quite like an Owen Bradley production. My god, listen to the swells of the Jordanaires, the tambourine on the chorus, the Grady Martin fills, and the Papa John Hughey licks. The nuance and understatement combine to create a powerful and memorable sound . Holy moly this is righteous!

Good to see a post from someone who knows who Grady Martin and John Hughey were. Those session musicians were great. Heard Bobby Bare and John Conley give big verbal credits to Grady at a live acoustic concert the year Bobby turned 80.

It's been over 50 years since the love of my life left me. Sonja- I still feel the same about you as I did then. This song brings back so many good memories of our time together. Hope you are happy.
