The term "punk" was first used in relation to rock music by some American critics in the early 1970s, to describe garage bands and their devotees. By late 1976, bands such as the Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Damned in London, and Television, Patti Smith, and the Ramones in New York City were recognized as the vanguard of a new musical movement. The following year saw punk rock spreading around the world, and it became a major cultural phenomenon in the United Kingdom. For the most part, punk took root in local scenes that tended to reject association with the mainstream. An associated punk subculture emerged, expressing youthful rebellion and characterized by distinctive styles of clothing and adornment (ranging from deliberately offensive T-shirts, leather jackets, spike bands and other studded or spiked jewelry to bondage and S&M clothes) and a variety of anti-authoritarian ideologies.
By the beginning of the 1980s, faster, more aggressive styles such as hardcore (e.g. Black Flag) and Oi! (e.g. Cock Sparrer) had become the predominant mode of punk rock. Musicians identifying with or inspired by punk also pursued a broad range of other variations, giving rise to post-punk and the alternative rock movement. At the end of the 20th century, punk rock had been adopted by the mainstream, as pop punk bands such as Green Day, The Offspring and Blink-182 brought the genre widespread popularity.
Should I Stay or Should I Go

Should I stay or should I go?
If you say that you are mine
I'll be here 'til the end of time
So you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
It's always tease, tease, tease
You're happy when I'm on my knees
One day it's fine and next it's black
So if you want me off your back
Well, come on and let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
Should I stay or should I go now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go, there will be trouble
And if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know
This indecision's bugging me (esta indecisiĂłn me molesta)
If you don't want me, set me free (si no me quieres, lĂbrame)
Exactly whom I'm supposed to be (dime, ¿qué tengo ser?)
Don't you know which clothes even fit me? (¿Sabes qué ropa me queda?)
Come on and let me know (me tienes que decir)
Should I cool it or should I blow? (ÂżMe debo ir o quedarme?)
Split
(ÂżSoplo, enfrĂo lo soplo?)
Should I stay or should I go now? (ÂżEnfrĂo o lo soplo?)
Should I stay or should I go now? (ÂżEnfrĂo o lo soplo?)
If I go there will be trouble (si me voy va a haber peligro)
And if I stay it will be double (si me quedo serĂĄ el doble)
So you gotta let me know (me tienes que decir)
Should I cool it or should I blow? (ÂżEnfrĂo o lo soplo?)
Should I stay or should I go now? (ÂżEnfrĂo o lo soplo?)
If I go there will be trouble (si me voy va a haber peligro)
And if I stay it will be double (si me quedo serĂĄ el doble)

Should I stay or should I go?
The Clash's song Should I Stay or Should I Go is one of their most popular and recognizable tracks that explores the themes of love, relationships, and commitment. The song's lyrics revolve around the singer's indecision whether to stay in a relationship where things are not clear or leave for something else. The repeated refrain "Should I stay or should I go?" highlights the confusion and frustration of the singer. The lyrics also touch on themes of power dynamics within a relationship, where the person in power is often teasing and manipulative, leaving the other person feeling confused and powerless.
Throughout the song, the singer is asking for clarity and communication from their partner in order to make a decision. They talk about how the teasing and mixed signals are confusing and that they need to know where they stand. The lyrics "One day it's fine and next it's black" showcase the volatile nature of the relationship, where things can switch from good to bad in a matter of moments.
The lyrics in Spanish add a layer of complexity to the song, with the phrase "esta indecisiĂłn me molesta" meaning "this indecision's bugging me." This line adds another dimension to the singer's situation, as they feel like they are being toyed with and are unable to make a decision due to their partner's constant teasing and indecisiveness.
Overall, Should I Stay or Should I Go is a relatable song that tackles universal themes of love and relationships in a catchy and energetic way, making it a timeless classic and a staple in The Clash's discography.

The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
Devo Ficar Ou Devo Ir?
Sempre provoca, provoca, provoca
VocĂȘ fica feliz quando eu fico de joelhos
Um dia é ótimo, o outro é péssimo
EntĂŁo se quiser me afastar
Bem, vamos lĂĄ e me diga
Devo ficar ou devo ir?
Devo ficar ou devo ir agora?
Devo ficar ou devo ir agora?
Se eu for, terei problemas
E se eu ficar, terei o dobro
EntĂŁo, vamos lĂĄ e me diga
Essa indecisĂŁo me atormenta
(Essa indecisĂŁo me atormenta)
Caso vocĂȘ nĂŁo me queira, me liberte
(Caso nĂŁo me queira, me liberte)
Exatamente quem eu deveria ser?
(Me diga o que tenho que ser)
NĂŁo sabe o que Ă© adequado para mim?
(Sabe o que me cai bem?)
Vamos lĂĄ e me diga
(Mas tem que dizer)
Devo ficar de boa ou cair fora?
(Eu devo ir ou ficar?)
Decida!
Caio fora
Fico de boa ou caio fora?
Devo ficar ou devo ir agora?
(Fico de boa ou caio fora?)
Devo ficar ou devo ir agora?
(Fico de boa ou caio fora?)
Se eu for, terei problemas
(Se eu for, haverĂĄ perigo)
E se eu ficar, terei o dobro
(Se eu ficar, haverĂĄ o dobro)
EntĂŁo vocĂȘ tem me dizer
(Tem que me dizer)
Devo ficar de boa ou cair fora?
(Fico de boa ou caio fora?)
Devo ficar ou devo ir agora?
(Fico de boa ou caio fora?)
Se eu for, terei problemas
(Se eu for, haverĂĄ perigo)
E se eu ficar, terei o dobro
(Se eu ficar, haverĂĄ o dobro)
EntĂŁo vocĂȘ tem me dizer
(Tem que me dizer)
Devo ficar ou devo ir?
