The Melting Point Of Wax
Thrice Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've waited for this moment
All my life and more
And now I see so clearly
What I could not see before.
The time is now or never
This chance won't come again
Throw caution and myself to the wind.

There's no promise of safety with these secondhand wings
But I'm willing to find out what impossible means.
A leap of faith.

Parody of an angel
Miles above the sea
I hear the voice of reason
Screaming up to me
"You flew too high, for now your too close to the sun
Soon your makeshift wings will come undone"

But how will I know limits from life if I never try?

There's no promise of safety with these secondhand wings
But I'm willing to find out what impossible means.
Climb to the heavens on feathers and dreams
Because the melting point of wax means nothing to me.
Nothing to me
Nothing to me

I will touch the sun or I will die trying.
Die trying.

Fly on these secondhand wings
Willing to find out what impossible means
Climb to the heavens on feathers and dreams
Because the melting point of wax means nothing to me
Nothing to me
Means nothing to me
Miles above the sea.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Thrice's song "The Melting Point Of Wax" is about taking a risk in life and daring to dream big despite the potential consequences. The song is a reference to the ancient Greek myth of Icarus, who flew too close to the sun with wings made of feathers and wax that melted under the heat, causing him to fall to his death. The singer in the song sings of his desire to take a leap of faith and fly, even if it means risking everything. He is willing to take a chance on a dream that seems impossible, and he's ready to face the consequences of failure.

The lyrics convey a message of hope and courage, urging the listener to seize the day and take a chance on their dreams. The song suggests that there is no promise of safety in life, and the only way to truly live is to take risks and embrace the unknown. The singer is determined to touch the sun or die trying, a powerful metaphor for the importance of striving for one's goals regardless of the outcome.

In conclusion, Thrice's "The Melting Point of Wax" is a powerful testament to the human spirit and the importance of taking risks in life. It is a message of hope and courage that inspires us to seize the day and pursue our dreams with passion and determination.

This song is soo massively underrated, and this song is probably my favourite thrice song.
Strangely uplifting and Dustin does an amazing job of translating the mythic Greek tragedy into something relatable to life with key moments.
So many people dont quite get the true meaning behind the cautionary tale of Icarus, Dustin does a great job of pushing the hidden message.
"How will i know limits from lies, if i never try!" its a message everyone should take to heart and strive to achieve more than you think you can every day!
Thank you Dustin and thank you Thrice!

Everyday everything to the fullest. That logic from everyone would purpose memory for future history.

What's even more awesome is that after he became a father, he wrote Daedalus... who is the father of Icarus, and tells the fathers perspective. Quite creative, and both songs are amazing, both have odd time signatures... brilliant, really
