Taylor Swift Lyrics

Hey Dorothea
Do you ever stop and think about me?
When we were younger
Down in the park
Honey, making a lark of the misery
You got shiny friends since you left town
A tiny screen's the only place I see you now
And I got nothing but well wishes for ya

Ooh
This place is the same as it ever was
Ooh
But you don't like it that way

It's never too late
To come back to my side
The stars in your eyes
Shined brighter in Tupelo
And if you're ever tired of being known
For who you know
You know, you'll always know me
Dorothea (ah-ah)
Dorothea (ah-ah)

Ooh, you're a queen
Selling dreams
Selling make up and magazines
Ooh, from you I'd buy anything

Hey Dorothea
Do you ever stop and think about me?
When it was calmer
Skipping the prom
Just to piss off your mom
And her pageant schemes
And damn, Dorothea
They all wanna be ya
But are you still the same soul
I met under the bleachers?
Well

Ooh
I guess I'll never know
Ooh
And you'll go on with the show

But it's never too late
To come back to my side
The stars in your eyes
Shined brighter in Tupelo
And if you're ever tired of being known
For who you know
You know, you'll always know me

Dorothea (ah-ah)
Dorothea (ah-ah)

Ooh
Ooh
Ooh-woo-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh-woo-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh

Dorothea (ah-ah)

Overall Meaning

The song "Dorothea" by Taylor Swift is an ode to an old friend, whom she has not seen in a long time. It is a reflection on the past, and the memories shared between two people who used to be close. The first verse sets the scene, where the singer addresses Dorothea, asking if she ever thinks about their past together. They used to hang out in the park, and despite the misery around them, they created happiness through silly and playful interactions. Since Dorothea left town, the singer has not seen her except on a tiny screen. However, they hold no grudges and only have well wishes for her.

In the chorus, the singer mentions how things have stayed the same, yet Dorothea is not happy with it. They encourage her to come back and reminisce about the good old days when they were young and carefree. The stars in her eyes shone brighter in Tupelo, indicating that her dreams may have faded away over time. The singer reminds her that she will always have a friend in them, no matter how much time has passed.

The second verse continues with reminiscing about the past, where they skipped prom to defy Dorothea's mother's pageant dreams. The singer posits whether Dorothea is still the same person, the one they fell in love with under the bleachers. They acknowledge that they may never know, but that Dorothea will always be a source of inspiration, for many want to be like her.

unpopular opinion-- I don't think Dorothea is written for Selena. I think tis the damn season was from the perspective of Dorothea and Dorthea is from the perspective of the guy in tis the damn season. some clues:

tis the damn season- "the school that used to be ours"
Dorothea-"are you the same soul i met under the bleachers"

tis the damn season- "remember how you watched me leave"
Dorothea- "its never too late to come back to my side"

tis the damn season- "ill go back to LA and the so-called friends"
Dorothea- "if you're ever tired of being known for who you know.."

ps. this is my opinion, you're free to believe the depiction of this song :)
