Coma White
Marilyn Manson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's something cold and blank
Behind her smile
She's standing on an overpass
In her miracle mile

'Cause you were from a perfect world
A world that threw me away today, today, today
To run away

A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
A pill to make you anybody else
But all the drugs in this world
Won't save her from herself

Her mouth was an empty cut
And she was waiting to fall
Just bleeding like a Polaroid
That lost all her dolls

You were from a perfect world
A world that threw me away today, today, today
To run away

A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
A pill to make you anybody else
But all the drugs in this world
Won't save her from herself

A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
A pill to make you anybody else
But all the drugs in this world
Won't save her from herself

You were from a perfect world
A world that threw me away today

A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
A pill to make you anybody else
But all the drugs in this world
Won't save her from herself

A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
A pill to make you anybody else
But all the drugs in this world
Won't save her from herself

Overall Meaning

Marilyn Manson's song "Coma White" tells a tragic story of a woman who is struggling with depression and addiction, unable to find solace even in the abundance of drugs that she's taking. The first verse paints a bleak picture of her, with "something cold and blank behind her smile" as she stands on an overpass in the "miracle mile". As the song progresses, it becomes clear that she's taking pills to numb her pain and try to escape her reality. She's bleeding emotionally and physically, "just bleeding like a Polaroid that lost all her dolls."

The chorus features the lines "A pill to make you numb, a pill to make you dumb, a pill to make you anybody else. But all the drugs in this world won't save her from herself." These lyrics illustrate the futility of her situation, that no matter how much medication she takes, it won't be enough to save her from the demons within. The final verse repeats the chorus, emphasizing the hopelessness of her situation and the desperate need for help.

The song is a poignant commentary on the struggles of addiction and depression, and the haunting lyrics and melancholic melody make it an emotional experience for listeners.

I absolutely love how Manson used the Alpha and Omega characters. Omega being a gender-ambiguous alien discovered on Earth, Omēga is kidnapped on behalf of the recording industry and transformed into a rock star, fronting the group Omēga and the Mechanical Animals. Alpha being a facet of Manson himself. Omegas songs are about Hollywood, sex, and drugs while Alphas songs are about heartbreak and pain.

Omega songs:
The Dope Show
Rock Is Dead
I Want To Disappear
I Don't Like The Drugs (But The Drugs Like Me)
New Model No. 15
User Friendly
Fundamentally Loathsome

Alpha songs:

Great Big White World

The Speed Of Pain
Posthuman
The Last Day On Earth
Coma White
