Also, did you know that he had a lot to do with changing the technology of filming (on film) and then going to digital to color correct the film before printing it so you can get really popping and unique colors? Oh Brother Where Art Thou was one of the first to do this. Amelie copied the technique. Lord of the Rings was made more affordably because of it.

I was 7 when this video was on rotation on MTV. I’m 47 now and it still sounds as fresh to me as it did back then.

I feel like when this song came out, it defined what a lot of 80’s music was going to sound like afterwards.

A lot of music at the time still relied on disco sounding beats like M’s “Pop Music” or The Buggles “Video Killed the Radio Star” or guitars a la Van Halen sounding groups and none of that is going on with this track.

The video was definitely revolutionary for it's time. Today, it could all be computer simulated and be in perfect time with the beat. Herbie was asked to judge a breakdancing contest. 10 kids, 9 of them danced to this track. @_@ he was just experimenting and it became a hit, he said he couldn't make commercially successful music on purpose if he tried. most kids don't know he's a legendary jazz musician.
