Give A Little Love
Noah and the Whale Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh well the world never seemed bigger
Than the summer of '98
Living out in the suburbs
Planning my escape
I grew my hair to my shoulders
Formed a band with a couple of friends
And we called ourselves The Devils Playhouse
Influences like Bruce and the band

And we'd sing and play
Simple three chord rock and roll
And miles away
The other kids would just grow old
But we're making our own way out
Yeah we're making our own way out

Well we'd practice every week in my bedroom
While my parents were working in town
And one morning in our school assembly
Played a cover of "Don't Let Me Down"
The performance was nervous and awkward
But the passion was real and profound
And the kids in the audience laughing
While the band just looked at the ground

But the victory
For the kids who believe in rock and roll
I know for me
That performance lives, it never grows old
But we're making our own way out
Yeah we're making our own way out

Well I'd give it all back just to do it again
Yeah I'd turn back time, be with my friends
Yeah I'd give it all back just to do it again
Turn back time, be with my friends
Yeah I'd give it all back just to do it again
Turn back time and be with my friends
Yeah I'd give it all back just to do it again
Turn back time, be with my friends
Tonight

I want to cry.

For many reasons, but here's a few;
This band, this music is so soulful and I'm heartbroken that I never got to experience them live. Turning all four albums up full volume on the stereo is the best I can get. I just close my eyes and in there. They're still together. This music is timeless.

They are timeless but they're finite. How does that work? I don't know. Art just has a way of surviving. Thriving, even.

Thank you, guys, for such wonderful soul music.

Rock on, and if you are ever to return... I'll be waiting, patiently.

All my love.

Well I know my death will not come
'Til I breathe all the air out my lungs
'Til my final tune is sung
That all is fleeting
Yeah, but all is good
And my love is my whole being
And I've shared what I could
But if you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own
Don't break his heart
Yeah if you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own
Don't break his heart

Well my heart is bigger than the earth
And though life is what gave it love first
Life is not all that it's worth
'Cause life is fleeting
Yeah, but I love you
And my love surrounds you like an ether
In everything that you do
But if you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own
Don't break his heart
Yeah if you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own
Don't break his heart
Yeah if you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own
Don't break his heart
Yeah if you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own
Don't break his heart
Well if you are (what you love)
And you do (what you love)
I will always be the sun and moon to you
And if you share (with your heart)
Yeah, you give (with your heart)
What you share with the world is what it keeps of you

It's late 2023 and I still listen to this song. It carries the same message as before, remember that you can not raise your vibration if you do not love. Learn to LOVE! Spread love.

@avlostparadise

Violin guy's smiling he knows he owns this song.

@EdgarHernandezragde

The violin really does make this song. Such a unique combination in a rock genre.
