Here's what I know for sure. Boredoms were in town. Eye knew who Zorn was. Joined in on the recording. Got paid(i hope)Can't be blamed for this sax heavy punk record. Moments of brilliance, but boredoms they are not.

‘Course they’re not Boredoms... They are Naked fuckin’ City! Only of the most influential avant-garde/jazzcore groups of all time. And this album with only “moments of brilliance” changed the game. That’s right, it was the talk of the town back then and it rightfully remains a celebrated album to this day (along with the band as a whole). What’s more, this album was more than a jazzy heavy punk album... it was an incredibly well-executed, ambitious, DIVERSE, and again, game-changing album put together by a group of top-tier musicians who were absolutely no strangers to the world of Jazz, math rock, and experimental music.

So you don’t think much of this album+the band and obviously hold Boredoms in much higher regard. Alright, fine. However, MANY (including well-known experimental artists that were far more impressed with this album) obviously don’t agree with your unimpressed self. And oh, Eye didn’t just “join in on the recoding”. First off, he met Zorn in JAPAN in the late 80’s. And yes, he was already familiar with Zorn’s work, but Boredoms in Zorn’s backyard? That’s not how it happened. In fact, Eye had already performed live with Naked City before this BRILLIANT album was recorded.

Needless to say, what you know “for sure” is nonsense. And lemme tell you... as much as I love Boredoms, sorry but from a technical standpoint the guys in Naked City are on another level. What did Naked City do that Boredoms didn’t anyway? Well, idk, Naked City only played a wide range of genres with total proficiency, they could jump from one genre to another with the total ease (critics and fans call this jump-cut style), they could be as fast, loud and extreme as any noise or grind band, and on top of that they played rock and contemporary classical compositions that you could tell were written by superb composers.

So, not Boredoms? Sure, but Boredoms aren’t Naked City either. Eye can’t be blamed for this? Lol, naysayers. Well, go read some of the stuff Eye has said about Naked City & Zorn. The humble guy would be PROUD to be blamed for something that blew the minds of many open-minded listeners back in the day (and continues to do so) like Naked City did. Not to mention Eye ended up making so much music with Zorn after Naked City.

As is, multi-dimensional, wickedly talented and influential Naked City> your opinion
