Thankful
Josh Groban Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Somedays, we can't see the joy that surrounds us
So caught up inside ourselves
We take when we should give
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And on this day we hope for
What we still can't see
It's up to us, to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There's so much to be thankful for
Look beyond ourselves
There's so much sorrow
It's way too late to say, I'll cry tomorrow
Each of us must find our truth
We're so long overdue
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And everyday, we hope for
What we still can't see
It's up to us, to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There's so much to be thankful for
Even with our differences
There is a place we're all connected
Each of us can find each others light
So for tonight, we pray for
What we know can be
And on this day, we hope for
What we still can't see
It's up to us, to be the change
And even though this world needs so much more
There's so much to be thankful for
In the song "Thankful" by Josh Groban, the lyrics serve as a reminder to appreciate the present moment and the good things in life, rather than getting caught up in our own problems and concerns. The opening lines talk about how we tend to forget to look around us and appreciate the joy that surrounds us. The song seems to be encouraging listeners to take a step back and look at the bigger picture, to see beyond ourselves, and to find our own truth.
The chorus emphasizes the need for change, and that it is up to each individual to make that change. The lyrics describe the importance of being thankful and grateful for what we have, even though we may still have more to do. There is a sense that we are all connected, and that even with our differences, there is a place for us in this world. The song ends on a hopeful note, reminding us that there is so much to be thankful for, despite the challenges that we face.
Overall, "Thankful" serves as a reminder to appreciate the good things in life, to stay hopeful and to be the change that we want to see in the world.

I found this CD when husband was critically ill with leukemia and this song resonated deeply with me then. The doctors were working day and night to save his life and I โprayed for what we know can beโ and โhoped for what we still canโt see.โ Iโve always been a fan of Josh and when I get this CD out it touches my heart again. My husband and I will celebrate our 50th anniversary in January 2023.

My dad was atheist until hearing Josh on his Christmas album. Dad cried. Then spoke, "I sure hope your mother can hear this in Heaven." And then...he cried with a smile , lookingup.

Every Christmas I would play this cd and my mom would say, "This is my favorite song." -I know, I know I would say. She died last month & now I can barely breathe. All this time I thought I was SO thankful, but I could have been so much more.
Everyone, leave this video and go hug and kiss your mother, husband, children. . . Never EVER take one minute for granted.
Thankful she's with our Lord, but I wish I'd hugged her a little longer, a lot more often.
