Hit The Ground
Lizz Wright Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hit the ground, babe
It´s alright now
Hit the ground babe
Take your veil down

See your eyes in mine
Leave the rest behind
Hit the ground babe,
´Cause I want to love you now

Hit the ground, babe
I said is alright now
Hit the ground babe
You´re gonna make it somehow

Babe, why so lonely?
The day has just begun
Hit the ground babe
Hit the ground and run

See your eyes in mine
Leave the rest behind

Hit the ground, babe
Hit the ground and run
Hit the ground, babe
Hit the ground and run

Absolutely beautiful. A little bit of Tracey, India and Bonnie Raitt. But ultimately her own beautiful self. Just found this artist and will follow her forever! Thanks Lizz for healing us.

@DJDJANGO1

Lizz Wright is easily one of the greatest Jazz, Blues, Gospel vocalists today. Sinfully overlooked by the corrupt music business. Lizz Wright in the studio or live [no autotune here!] has such a moving, haunting, soulful voice. Lizz Wright is the Truth!

@BipolarPerson

This woman has one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard!

@GjaP_242

The middle child of a minister from rural Georgia, Lizz took the music world by storm in 2003 with breakout performances at Billie Holiday tributes in Chicago and Los Angeles and with her debut album Salt (Verve), where her rich gospel-trained contralto soared amidst a soulful R&B-meets-jazz setting. The New York Times' Stephen Holden was moved to call her "a young singer and songwriter of astonishing maturity and poise" and write that "in her debut album and on the stage, Ms. Wright delivers spun gold . stir(ring) jazz, gospel, and rhythm-and-blues into a reflective, flowing style that elongates songs into prayerful meditations that never wander into vagueness. Pitch-perfect, with a smoky, full- bodied texture . impressive in its steadiness, control and rhythmic subtlety." 1:48 [Excerpt copied from All About Jazz]

This woman's vocals on this track are supernatural. The word excellent doesn't describe it. Deep, soulful, seductive, sincere, romantic & powerful in its eloquence. Despite some comparisons to others I hear true originality. She's creative in how she simply applies her phrasing to the lyric. I thought only this track may have been magical. I was wrong. She has many, many tracks that follow this route. I love listening with headphones and eyes closed. Her voice is worth the time to enjoy.
