What a Wonderful World
Nick Cave & Shane MacGowan Lyrics

I see trees of green, red roses too
I watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue, clouds of white
The bright blessed day and the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of the people passing by
I see friends shaking hands, saying, how do you do?"
What they're really saying is "I love you."

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll know much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself: What a Wonderful World
Yes I think to myself: What a Wonderful World

One is drunk and one is high. They complement each other perfectly. It is indeed a wonderful world.

I’ve adored Shane for a long time and it just dawned on me during all of this covid-19 chaos that Shane is singing “What a Wonderful World” with a crucifix around his neck and most likely maintaining an “above average” BAC...maybe it’s because he’s truly a genius and a sensitive caring man that wants to serve what is right. And he’s honest. He makes no excuses for why he is the way he is. People mock him. But, there’s so much more to the man than just the chemical intake for most of his life. He was also skipped grades in school and given scholarships. He wrote masterpieces while, in his own words, “out of it most of the time.” I think my only point is this: never judge someone based on something like their booze intake. I think there’s very good reason to believe that Shane self-medicated, because he’s sensitive to the suffering of others. I could be wrong, but it’s just a theory about my favorite lyricist ever. God bless you, Shane. I’m a fan for life.
