Lola Montez
Volbeat Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Feel the fire where she walks
Lola Montez, so beautiful
Shady and a tempered dame
Blinding your eyes with her spider dance

Her performance utterly erotic subversive to all ideas
And for public morality
And cool as she was, she didn't care
See the miner throw his gold
Lifting her skirt howling loud like a wolf
Hell raising and full of sin
When Lola was dancing and showing her skin

Wherever she walks
She will be captivating all the men
Don't look in her eyes
You might fall and find the love of your life, heavenly
But she'll catch you in her web
The love of your life, yeah

Feel the fire where she walks
Lola Montez, so beautiful
Shady and a tempered dame
Blinding your eyes with her spider dance

"Well notorious I have been
But never for fame" that's what she said
Dear Henry taste my whip
Never to see any words you print

Wherever she walks
She will be captivating all the men
Don't look in her eyes
You might fall and find the love of your life, heavenly
But she'll catch you in her web
The love of your life, yeah

Oh Lola, I'm sure that the love would have been
The key to all your pain, the key to all your pain
No words will later come
Did the spider bite your tongue?
We will surely not forget
We will surely not forget
The Lola spider dance

Whoa
Don't look on her eyes
You might fall and find the love of your life, heavenly
But she'll catch you in her web
The love of your life, yeah

Overall Meaning

Volbeat's song Lola Montez is an energetic and electrifying rock song that tells the story of the famous dancer and mistress Lola Montez. The lyrics paint the picture of a seductive and powerful woman who mesmerizes men with her captivating beauty and spider-like dance moves. The song speaks of Lola's ability to manipulate and control people with her charm and the dangerous consequences of falling under her spell.

The lyrics describe Lola as a "tempered dame" which implies that she is fiery, passionate and unpredictable in nature. The lines "Her performance utterly erotic subversive to all ideas and for public morality" highlight Lola's rebellious and provocative nature. She challenges societal norms and expectations with her daring dance moves and is not afraid to push the boundaries of what is considered acceptable behavior.

The song also touches on the darker aspects of Lola's story, like her relationship with the author Henry James and her use of a whip as a form of domination. The lyrics "Dear Henry, taste my whip, never to see any words you print" suggest a somewhat sadistic side to Lola's personality.

Overall, Lola Montez is a song about the power of seduction and the dangerous consequences of being entranced by someone's charm and beauty. It serves as a reminder that sometimes the most alluring things can also be the most harmful.
