Damage
Tiefschwarz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Down the empty roads again
I never want go again
Into your empty world again
I'll never be that girl again

All my love inconsequencial
The creeping damage incremental
I see you in every face now
The music is a lonely place now

On my last goodbye again
I never want to cry again
If you should pass my way again
I'd never feel that way again

My Love was a tragedy
Your love was a travesty
I see you in every heart now
The music can't keep us apart now

I was always there
But you weren't aware.
I was always there but
You never chose to care.

Damage in a lonely place.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tiefschwarz feat. Tracey Thorn's song Damage explores the pain, regret, and heartbreak that comes with a failed relationship. The song expresses a sense of loss and melancholy, as the singer recounts their experiences of loving someone who did not reciprocate their feelings.

The lyrics of the first verse - "Down the empty roads again, I never want go again, into your empty world again, I'll never be that girl again" - suggest that the singer has been down this road before. They have tried to make things work with this person in the past, but it was ultimately an empty and unfulfilling experience. The second verse - "All my love inconsequential, the creeping damage incremental, I see you in every face now, the music is a lonely place now" - further emphasizes the singer's feeling of isolation and despair. They have given all their love to this person, but it was meaningless, and the damage it caused has accumulated gradually over time. They are unable to escape the memories of the relationship, which seem to haunt them everywhere they go.

The chorus - "My Love was a tragedy, Your love was a travesty, I see you in every heart now, the music can't keep us apart now" - is a reflection of the singer's utter devastation. Their love was a tragedy - it brought them pain and heartache, while the other person's love was a travesty - it was a cruel and destructive force in their life. The final verse - "I was always there, but you weren't aware. I was always there but you never chose to care. Damage in a lonely place" - speaks to the singer's frustration and sense of betrayal. They were always there for the other person, but the other person never acknowledged or appreciated their efforts. The song ends on a melancholic note, conveying the idea that the damage caused by this failed relationship has left the singer feeling alone and isolated.

Hello slaweful, thanks for putting this video on to YouTube. I remember first hearing this song at a clothes shop that I worked at just outside Inverness (Inverness-shire, North West Scotland, Scotland) between 2004 and 2007. I loved this song when I first heard it at the clothes shop and I still love it. Yes I'm pleased that you've put this song on to youTube as I've been trying to find it for a long time.
