Failure
Breaking Benjamin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Life will come our way
It has only just begun
The world will die alone
The frail will fall below

Time will take our place
We return it back to one
The calm before the cold
The long and lonely road

Look for the light that leads me home

Tired of feeling lost, tired of letting go
Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down
Failure

Drive the cloud away
We will fall from last to none
The dark before the dawn
The war will carry on

Look for the light that leads me home

Tired of feeling lost, tired of letting go
Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down
Tired of wasted breath, tired of nothing left
Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down
Failure

Tired of feeling lost, tired of letting go
Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down
Tired of wasted breath, tired of nothing left
Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down

We bury the sunlight (so long), we bury the sunlight (so long)
Failure, failure (so long, so long)
We bury the sunlight (so long), we bury the sunlight (so long)
Failure, failure (so long, so long)
Failure

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Breaking Benjamin's song "Failure" discuss the inevitability of life, death, and our place in the world. The first stanza sets the tone for the rest of the song by recognizing that life is only just beginning, but that the world will ultimately die alone. This is followed by the line "The frail will fall below," which implies that those who are weak or vulnerable will not survive in this harsh reality. The second stanza is a reflection on time and how everything eventually returns to one, or to where it began. This is described as "the calm before the cold" and "the long and lonely road," suggesting that life is often difficult and challenging.

The chorus provides a message of hope in the midst of these challenges. The line "Look for the light that leads me home" represents a search for something positive to hold onto in the face of adversity. However, this is juxtaposed with the repeated phrase "Failure," which seems to acknowledge that even when we strive for success, failure is always a possibility. The final stanza talks about fighting against the darkness and the war that perpetually surrounds us. The line "We will fall from last to none" represents a determination to persevere and overcome obstacles.

In summary, "Failure" is a song that highlights the struggle of living in a challenging world, but encourages listeners to keep searching for hope and to fight against despair.

The last time I saw breaking Benjamin live. There were people fighting in the mospit. He literally stopped the show in the middle of the song to yell at them and then just proceeded on. I thought that was pretty cool. Seeing them live again in January and I can't wait.
