Earth Intruders
Björk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

Turmoil, carnage

Here come the earth intruders
We are the paratroopers
Stampede of sharpshooters
Come straight from voodoo

With our feet thumping
With our feet marching
Grinding skeptics into the soil

Shower of goodness
Coming to end the doubt pouring over
Shower of goodness coming to end

We are the earth intruders
We are the sharp shooters
Flock of parashooters
Necessary voodoo

I have guided my bones
Through some voltage
And loved them still
And loved them too

Metallic carnage
Ferocity
Feel the speed

We are the earth intruders
We are the sharp shooters
Flock of parashooters
Necessary voodoo

There is turmoil out there
Carnage, rambling

What is to do but dig
Dig bones out of earth
Mudgraves, timber
Morbid trenches

Here come the earth intruders
Stampede of resistance
We are the canoneers
Necessary voodoo

And the beast
With many heads
And arms rolling
Steamroller

We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

Forgive this tribe

We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
We are the earth intruders

We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
Marching

We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
Marching

March
March
March

Overall Meaning

The song "Earth Intruders" by Björk speaks of humanity as the "earth intruders" who have trampled down nature and have caused turmoil and carnage on earth. The constant repetition of "We are the earth intruders" emphasizes the point that humans have invaded and taken charge of the earth's natural resources, including trees and branches. The lyrics "Stampede of sharpshooters" and "Flock of parashooters" give a sense of aggression and urgency, as if humans are trying to take everything they can from the earth as quickly as possible. The use of the phrase "Necessary Voodoo" suggests that humans believe they are justifying their actions by resorting to mystical or irrational reasoning.

The lyrics also suggest that there is some sort of resistance or rebellion against the earth intruders. The lines "Shower of goodness / Coming to end the doubt pouring over / Shower of goodness coming to end" imply that there is hope for change, that goodness and positivity will eventually overcome doubt and negativity. The repetition of marching and the use of words like "canoneers" and "Steamroller" also give a sense of a collective force rising up against the earth intruders.

Overall, the song can be interpreted as a call to action to humans to acknowledge their damaging impact on the environment and take responsibility to protect it.

One of the most underrated tracks to ever be released, Bjork is from another planet

@kaikae4858

Literally, she realizes where her and her "people" are from.

@Napoleonno

People seem to kinda remember Björk albums as trios, Debut/Post/Homogenic are the most remembered and talked about but in my opinion nothing beats Vespertine/Medúlla/Volta. It truly is Björk's holy trinity

@LamiNalchor

Apparently. Otherwise, we wouldn't be earth intruders.

@lr8786

You're right
