Ugly Heart
G.R.L. Lyrics

Maybe I'm a fool
Maybe I don't know how to love but
Maybe I do
Maybe you know more than me but
This much is true
This little heart and brain of mine say
We're through with you
And I wonder does it blow your mind
That I'm leaving you far behind
I wonder does it stop your heart to know
You're not my sunshine, anymore
Okay you're pretty
Your face is a work of art
Your smile could light up New York City after dark
Okay you're Coverboy pretty
Stamped with a beauty mark
But it's such a pity a boy so pretty
With an ugly heart
Maybe you'll get married
And she will kiss your feet
While I give all my rides away
I won't loose no sleep
Maybe on your honeymoon
You'll think of me
But if you don't won't shed a tear
Yeah I can guarantee
And I wonder does it blow your mind
That I'm leaving you far behind
I wonder does it stop your heart to know
You're not my sunshine, anymore
Okay you're pretty
Your face is a work of art
Your smile could light up New York City after dark
Okay you're Coverboy pretty
Stamped with a beauty mark
But it's such a pity a boy so pretty
With an ugly heart
Okay you're pretty
Your face is a work of art
Your smile could probably light up New York after dark
Okay you're Coverboy pretty
Stamped with a beauty mark
But it's such a pity
A boy so pretty
With an uh- an uh- an ugly heart
An uh an uh an ugly heart so
Okay you're pretty
Your face is a work of art
Your smile could light up New York City after dark
Okay you're Coverboy pretty
Stamped with a beauty mark
But it's such a pity a boy so pretty
With an ugly heart
Okay you're pretty
Your face is a work of art
Your smile could light up New York City after dark
Okay you're Coverboy pretty
Stamped with a beauty mark
But it's such a pity a boy so pretty
(So pretty, so pretty) With an ugly heart
The song Ugly Heart by G.R.L. is an upbeat, pop song that tells the story of a person who decides to leave their lover behind because of their unappealing personality despite their physical beauty. The singer contemplates if they’re wrong for wanting to walk away from their partner because they seem pretty but have a grotesque heart. However, the singer concludes that they have to follow their instincts and leave because the person they fell in love with does not exist anymore. The singer wonders if it affects the other person to know that they're not the one for them anymore.
One of the most interesting aspects of this song is the chorus, which could be said to be a sarcastic compliment since it exclusively focuses on the beauty of the person being sung about. The songwriters want to make sure that even though the song is about an ugly heart, the person's physical beauty is not undermined. Another interesting thing to note is that the song reiterates the concept that physical beauty is inherent while an unpleasant nature is a choice one makes for themselves. In the bridge, the singer wishes the person all the best in their future endeavors and emphasizes that the breakup won't affect the other person deeply.
A few other facts about the song include that it was released in 2014 and was a commercial success, reaching the top 10 in various countries, and its music video has over 100 million views on YouTube as of 2021. Simultaneously, the song received spread attention for being the first G.R.L. single released after the sudden death of member Simone Battle. It was written by Dr. Luke, a controversial songwriter who was at the center of the Kesha court case. The songwriters describe it as an empowering fairytale-like song for anyone going through a breakup. Lastly, the song has a dance-pop sound, with elements of electropop, and the chorus uses a repetitive structure to help it be catchy and stand out.
Chords: C, Am, F, and G.

It's a shame that this group never really took off. This was their most popular song and it didn't even chart on the Billboard Hot 100. It was fairly popular in my country, and I do have memories of it. Definitely an underrated classic.
@wahteklim3688
They would have, but Simone killed herself, and the group split up afterwards. They tried to do a comeback, but were unsuccessful
@blackwolfdragon1705
@@wahteklim3688 you know what's sadder? The song didn't really get popular until after Simone's death
