Miss Misery
Elliott Smith Lyrics

I'll fake it through the day
With some help from Johnny Walker Red
And the cold pain behind my eyes
It shoots back through my head
With two tickets torn in half
And a lot of nothing to do
But it's all right
'Cause some enchanted night I'll be with you

The tarot cards
And the lines in my hand
Tell me I'm wrong
But they're untrue

I got plans for both of us
That involve a trip out of town
To a place I've seen in a magazine
That you left lying around
I can't hold my liquor but
I keep a good attitude
'Cause it's all right
Some enchanted night I'll be with you

And though you'd rather see me gone
Than to see there come the day
I'll be waiting for you anyway

Next door the TV's flashing
Blue frames on the wall
It's a comedy from the 70s
With a lead no one recalls
He vanished into oblivion
It's easy to do
And I cry to see when you talked to me
The day you said we were through

But it's all right
Some enchanted night I'll be with you

I'll fake it through the day
With some help from johnny walker red
Send the poison rain down the drain
To put bad thoughts in my head
Two tickets torn in half
And a lot of nothing to do
Do you miss me, miss misery
Like you say you do?

A man in the park
Read the lines in my hand
Told me I'm strong
Hardly ever wrong I said, "man, you're mean"

You had plans for both of us
That involved a trip out of town
To a place I've seen in a magazine
That you left lying around
I don't have you with me but
I keep a good attitude
Do you miss me, miss misery
Like you say you do?

I know you'd rather see me gone
Than to see me the way that I am
But I am in the life anyway

Next door the tv's flashing
Blue frames on the wall
It's a comedy of errors, you see
It's about taking a fall
To vanish into oblivion
Is easy to do
And I try to be but you know me
I come back when you want me to
Do you miss me miss misery
Like you say you do?

I discovered him after a breakup when I watched "Thumbsucker" and "The
Royal Tennenbaums" one after the other for the first time. Then I
realized my favorite tracks from both were by the same artist. Since
then, during my years of alcoholism and Bipolar, he's saved my life many
times over. The illustration of his misery in his songs and soft voiced
delivery placed me in a cradle and rocked me back-and-forth gently;
that maybe things won't be alright, but that this deceased artist
somehow understood what I felt and wanted to give me comfort. Maybe I'm
just another Smith worshiper but if music is about connection, the songs
that affected me the most were by him.

How did you discover Elliott Smith?

One of the most brilliant artists ever. He expressed his depression in such a beautifully tragic way. His music truly gets to you. Raw emotion

For Felines

His songs make me feel better. Expressing the things we all feel, in some degree or another. I love having a good cry after, too. That always helps.

How could someone so talented not die so young.
