Indian Summer
Stereophonics Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Every time that I see ya,
A lightening bolt fills the room,
The underbelly of Paris,
She sings her favorite tune,
She'll drink you under the table,
She'll show you a trick or two,
But every time that I left her,
I missed the things she would do

She was the one for me,
She opened my eyes to see,
She was the one for me,
Well alright

It was a cold September,
Before the Indian summer,
That's the thing I remember,
When she gave me her number,
Went from station to station,
On a train 'cross the nation
Then the rain of November,
That's the time that we ended,
She was the one for me,
Well alright

Vodka with Coca Cola,
Cocaine tucked in her shoes,
Cigarettes over coffee,
Her halo slipped to a noose,
Take a slow boat to China,
Fly it right 'round the moon,
She could take it or leave it,
I knew it had to end soon

She was the one for me,
She opened my eyes to see,
She was the one for me,
Well alright

It was a cold September,
Before the Indian summer,
That's the thing I remember,
When she gave me her number,
Went from station to station,
On a train 'cross the nation,

And the rain of November,
That's the time that we ended,
She was the one for me, she opened my eyes to see, she was the one for me
Well alright, alright, alright, yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Stereophonics' song "Indian Summer" depicts a tumultuous and passionate relationship between two individuals who, despite their differences and flaws, couldn't resist each other. The song starts with the singer describing how every time he sees her, he feels an electric charge. The woman in question is described as someone who is charming, clever and knows how to have a good time. The metaphor of lightning bolt in the room represents the intensity and impact of her presence, which is hard to ignore. The woman may be from Paris, as the song refers to the "underbelly of Paris," where she sings her favorite tune.

Despite her lively nature, the relationship is not perfect, and the singer seems to have left her at some point in the past. Yet, he misses her and the things she used to do, which is shown in the line "But every time that I left her, I missed the things she would do." It's unclear why he left, but the song hints that it may be due to her excessive habits. The lyrics mention her drinking skills, drug use (cocaine tucked in her shoes), and smoking over coffee. The halo slipping to a noose suggests that her wild ways may have led to her downfall.

The song's title "Indian Summer" refers to a brief and unseasonably warm period of weather in autumn. The song's lyrics start in September and move to November, with the cold representing the end of their fiery romance. The song's title also contains a play on words, as "Indian" refers to Native Americans, who are heavily associated with the idea of the untamed, wild west or outlaws, while the "Summer" is a contradictory association with warmth and joyfulness. This somewhat chaotic image of a Native American Summer perhaps reflects the chaotic nature of the singer's relationship.

Every time that I see her,
A lightning bolt fills the room,
The underbelly of Paris,
She sings her favourite tune.

She’ll drink you under the table,
She show you a trick or two,
But every time that I left her,
I miss the things she would do.

She was the one, for me,
She opened my eyes, to see,
She was the one, for me,
Well alright.

It was cold September,
Before the Indian Summer,
That’s the thing I remember,
When she gave me a number.

Went from station to station,
On a train ‘cross the nation,
And the rain of November,
That’s the time that we ended.

She was the one, for me,
Oh alright.

Vodka with coca-cola,
Cocaine tucked in her shoes,
Cigarettes over coffee,
Her halo slipped to a noose.

Take the slow boat to China,
You fly it right ’round the moon,
She could take it or leave it,
I knew it had to end soon.

She was the one, for me,
She opened my eyes, to see,
She was the one, for me,

@dadoferreira8021

paul kearney Isn't he? I don't think people would ever find out that.

@Gobtik

+paul kearney Great band but I don't think they "underrated" to be fair, after they became the Stereophonics and then released their first studio album they got the BRIT Award for best new group in Feb 1998 and their records have gone multiple times platinum (5x for Performance and Cocktails and Just Enough Education to Perform) plus multiple top 40 singles etc

@CrazyBoyAndyTV

+Gobtik they are popular but very underrated. Also Many people know their songs but don't know who sung them.
