so sad that they didnβt get the recognition they deserved. This album is PURE GOLD
@rasungod7257
This album went Gold RIAA certified.
@CarlosHernandez-rl2wg
@RA SunGod7 They didn't see the profits though.
@rasungod7257
@Carlos Hernandez especially if the record company gets a majority of the profits. Fatlip said when they were featured in the movie documentary "Rhyme And Reason" (1997) : "These record labels are sheisty man. They don't care about the artist you know what I'm saying? They let the artist do what he wanna do. "Yeah act silly do it for me " You know. They get a certain percentage, man we get Kibbles you what I'm saying that's played out"
@Mr.Majestic77
The Pharcyde (Far Side) definitely in the conversation with A Tribe Called Quest, Outkast, De La Soul, Goodie Mob, The Roots, Little Brother & Slum Village.
@localppc242
They did get recognition. They couldnβt get along with each other. Sometimes itβs the artist fault.

Love the horrorcore elements in this song. Not a fan of that genre, but Pharcyde would pull it off so well.
@holdmeclosertonydanza22
Feels like one of the first ever horrorcore tracks, like I know gangster rap flirted with the concept of glorified violence and gore, but this feels so much more playful, like the genre would grow to be. I'm not a horrorcore guy either, but I can appreciate how it works here.
@gokuparaguaio1319
That's what I like about Pharcyde. The diversity in their style.

Luv this song and the video. The Pharcyde were one of the best group's back in the day. So different with their style and flow. Coming from the west coast. And the Bizarre Ryde II The Pharcyde album was a hell of an album. A classic by these guys no doubt...
@CombatWombat730
I remember when this album first came out , it was highly slept on .. still is unfortunately..

Classic material from a Classic group. Shit still goes hard all these years later.
@travisslaughter6511
They had alot of fun making this track!!ππππ
@jdelfresco1634
Name one track on the album, songs and skits both, that they DIDNT have fun making π
These dudes were total clowns, and it shows right through in their music. Very few other rappers can joke and laugh through a whole verse, yet still give the audience something with so much substance front to back. Itβs not easy to put into words really.
All I know is, Iβd give quite a bit to travel back in time to the recording of this album and kick it in the studio with these guys during the recordings
@altonprayer8727
Oh yeah big dawg I'm still rocking the Pharsyde's first two albums to this day! We were rocking this shit back in Japan back in the day. This group is highly underrated.
@hightreestess
Best hip-hop group ever! β€
@duanecuster5824
I still remember this was the first cassette I ever got and listened to front to the back and learned every word. I wanted to be from Cali so bad. So creative and dark but fun and silly. Didn't even need a visual. Allowed me to create my own visual of each character.
@anthonyrobinson6590
Cali in the 90s was magical!! I don't even have the words to describe what it was like.
@jdelfresco1634
Damn bro you said it!! I just watched the video for the first time after hearing the song a hundred times and not knowing an official video was ever made. No matter what, it doesnβt touch the picture I painted in my head of each character.
But thatβs why the Cyde were brilliantly ahead of their time, tracks like this, βya mamaβ, βplease mr. officer,β and others just provide such explicit visuals with nothing but audio. Unlike rappers today (and even quite a few from their era) itβs more than just the rhymes. The mixing on this track was too brilliant, and the bouncing back and forth of the voices on the last verse, overlapping each other with his low voice and her highs, such attention to detail.
Long live the cyde
@DiamondHanded
This beat is one of the best ive ever heard ever! Mixed with the flow it's contagious i can't stop listening lol

@dogsandyoga1743
The thing I want to point out is, at the time, NOBODY was making music like this, from a structural stand point. It was layered like a Bomb Squad track, but with live instrumentation mixed with the samples. The instrumental could almost stand alone and tell the same story. A great example of lyrics being perfectly mapped to a beat.
I wish i knew music theory, i could explain it better....
@rcole718
Nobody was really making music like this from the west coast at that time. It was them and the Heiro crew, and that was about it.
@rasungod7257
@stephen kost Souls Of Mischief and The Pharcyde were supposed to partner up and do a collaboration called "The Almighty Pythons". Too bad The Pharcyde splintered in two with Imani and Booty Brown being a duo keeping The Pharcyde name. Fatlip and Slimkid Tre are a group going by the name "Bizarre Ride" paying homage to their that made them a household name.
@jaywu_chakra9919
Yup. I hear the modulation delay on the piano.
@SubliminalMinded2011
Very true. It was like west coast Bomb Squad. Could've been made just a few years ago, and would still feel new. Lots of texture and layers.
Not true at all. Whether it was De La Soul, Kam, Compton's Most Wanted, Digable Planet's, Da Youngstas, Public Enemy, 3rd Bass, K Solo, Wu-Tang Clan, Nikki D, Heiro, Gangstarr, The Roots, Tribe, The Alkaholiks, Smiff-N Wessun, or EPMD rapper's from the mid to late 80's thru the 90's (the dope & memorable one's) damn near all had that something that separated their sound & talent from each other. Love this video and song since I was a kid but I can think of a bunch of MC's and groups who were breaking new ground musically and visually other than this Pharcyde video. I'll back that statement up too. Go to my playlist "PRODUCT OF THE GOLDEN ERA".
