The ney consists of a piece of hollow cane or reed with five or six finger holes and one thumb hole. Sometimes a brass or plastic mouthpiece is placed at the top to protect the wood from damage, but this plays no role in the sound production. Modern neys may be made instead of metal or plastic tubing. The pitch of the ney varies depending on the region and the finger arrangement. A highly-skilled ney player can reach more than three octaves, though it is more common to have several "helper" neys to cover different pitch ranges or to facilitate playing technically difficult passages in other maqamat.

Nada por dizer
Então eu escuto
Se você disser
Tudo o que quiser
Então eu escuto
Fala
lá, lá, lá, lá, lá, lá. lá, lá, lá
Fala
Se eu não entender
Não vou responder
Então eu escuto
Eu só vou falar
Na hora de falar
Então eu escuto
Fala
lá, lá, lá, lá, lá, lá, lá, lá
Fala
The lyrics of Secos & Molhados's song Fala speaks about the importance of listening and understanding before speaking. The first two lines of the song, "Eu não sei dizer/Nada por dizer" translate to "I don't know what to say/Nothing to say." This indicates a sense of hesitation from the singer, implying that they may not have enough knowledge or understanding about the topic at hand to speak confidently about it.
The next few lines, "Então eu escuto/ Se você disser/ Tudo o que quiser/ Então eu escuto" meaning "So I listen/If you say everything you want/I listen," highlights the willingness of the singer to listen and learn from others. They suggest that if someone is willing to share their thoughts and ideas, they will attentively listen and take note of what is being shared.
The chorus of the song, "Fala" meaning "speak" in Portuguese, reinforces the theme of the song, emphasizing the importance of communication and the willingness to listen before speaking. The lines "Se eu não entender/ Não vou responder/Então eu escuto" meaning "If I don't understand/ I won't respond/I listen," again highlights the theme of listening and understanding before responding.
Overall, the song Fala by Secos & Molhados speaks about the importance of listening before speaking and understanding before responding, a theme that is relevant in personal relationships and broader societal issues.

E a pessoa ainda estimula o interlocutor a continuar:
