One Hundred Days
Mark Lanegan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And twilight falls again
To the funny sound that a blackbird makes
Twilight falls again
As no good reason remains, I'll do the same
Thinking of you
One day a ship comes in, one day a ship comes in
But I can't say how or when
But I know somewhere the ship comes in every day
There is no morphine, I'm only sleeping
There is no crime to dreams like this
And if you could take something with you
It would be right
Something good
From my fingertips, the cigarette throws ashes to the ground
I'd stop and talk to the girls who work this street, but I got business farther down
Like one long season of rain, I will remain
Thinking of you
One day a ship comes in
From far away a ship comes in
One hundred days you wait for it
And you know somewhere the ship comes in every day
There is no morphine, I'm only sleeping
There is no crime to dreams like this
And if you could take something with you
It would be bright
Just like something good
One day a ship comes in
One hundred days you wait for it
Something bright
Something so good
One hundred days
A ship comes in every day
You know it's good
You know it's good
A ship comes in every day
One day a ship comes in
Its good
When it's something good
The song "One Hundred Days" by Mark Lanegan is a melancholic and haunting tune that speaks of waiting for something good to come your way. The opening lines of the song set the stage for a contemplative mood, with the willow bending towards the end of day and twilight falling again. The blackbird's sound adds to the mysterious atmosphere, as no good reason remains, and the singer thinks of someone he is missing. He awaits the arrival of a ship, a metaphorical image of hope and redemption in the song. While he doesn't know how or when it will come, he knows that it comes in every day somewhere.

Mark Lanegan will go down in history as one of the best male vocalists. I don't care what anyone says. He deserves everything good in life and more.
@ChristertonTullo
I doubt he will on any "official" list but he already is
@danielmcbride2375
He needs to have the mark twain award, and song writers hall of fame

Sadly he just passed away... and I fully agree with your statement.

@@electricroxy He won't get forgotten he will become a cool cult artist like he was when he was alive . Example is out of my group of mates a few of us are really into music in a big way and we found out about Nick Drake and love his music and he died way before I was born or any of my friends. Mark will become that for future generations of music lovers who want to find great music that's not part of the mainstream he was one of the best singer songwriters in the last 30 years in music.

"I'd stop and talk to the girls that work the street but I've got business farther down" This song has been part of my solo set for about 12 years. You almost have to have been an addict to get the full understanding of the lyrics, but it is deceivingly simple, hopeful and beautiful. Rest now
@HiGlowie
Gotta keep walking unless you’ll feel even more sick. Hope you find a way out, friend.
