Kendrick Lamar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I love the way you, put it on your eyes
The roses on your face, light up the sky
Those lips are colorful all of the time
And girl that's fine, but I wanna know do you mind
No makeup today (day, day, day, day)
No makeup today (day, day, day, day) today
No makeup today (day, day, day, day)
No makeup today (day, day, day, day)
And girl that's fine but I wanna know do you mind

I know she bout to ask me how she look
I tell her beautiful, and how long it took
For you to put it on, it was early in the morn'
She resembled a model out of a Mac book
Concentrating on the way the eyeliner thickens
I stand behind her and try to figure her vision
Of prettiness, the wittiness, of colors on her skin tone
Her complexion in a direction I've outgrown
Damn girl, why so much?
You bout to blow your cover when you cover up
Don't you know your imperfections
Is a wonderful blessing
From heaven, is where you got it from
I love your smile, you can do it without style
From your lips, all the way to your eyebrows
It's the beauty in her but when the makeup occur
I don't see it, all I see is a blur

I love the way you, put it on your eyes
The roses on your face, light up the sky
Those lips are colorful all of the time
And girl that's fine, but I wanna know do you mind
No makeup today (day, day, day, day)
No makeup today (day, day, day, day) today
No makeup today (day, day, day, day)
No makeup today (day, day, day, day)
And girl that's fine but I wanna know do you mind (mind, mind, mind, mind)

I know she bout to ask me how she look
I tell her beautiful and how long it took
For you to put it on it was early in the morn'
She resembled a model out of a Mac book
(Concentrating on the way my) eyeliner thickens
(He stand behind me and try to) figure her vision
(Of prettiness, the wittiness of colors on my skin tone)
(My complexion in a direction) I've outgrown
(I feel like it's not enough)
(I can never put on too much makeup)
(Yeah I know) your imperfections
(I be constantly stressing, from him is where I get it from)
(They tell me I need to) smile
(At least once in a while)
(I hate my lips, my nose, my) eyebrows
(It's the beauty in me)
(But what he don't see, is that I had a black...)
To be continued eleven

Ladies and gentlemen
And you ain't gotta get drunk to have fun
You ain't gotta get drunk to have fun
You ain't gotta get drunk to have fun
You ain't gotta get drunk to have fun (have fun)

I love the way you, put it on your eyes
The roses on your face, light up the sky
Those lips are colorful all of the time
And girl that's fine, but I wanna know do you mind
No makeup today (day, day, day, day)
No makeup today (day, day, day, day) today
No makeup today (day, day, day, day)
No makeup today (day, day, day, day)
And girl that's fine but I wanna know do you mind (mind, mind, mind, mind)

Overall Meaning

The song "No Make-Up" by Kendrick Lamar is a tribute to natural beauty in a world where women are often pressured to conform to societal beauty standards by covering up their natural features with makeup. The chorus of the song, where Lamar repeatedly sings "No makeup today" is a call to all women to embrace their natural features and not feel the need to put on makeup to impress anyone. The lyrics describe the way he sees his girlfriend putting on makeup on a daily basis and how it initially intrigued him, but now he wants to see her natural beauty instead. He also acknowledges that he knows society puts pressure on women to wear makeup, highlighting that it's not always a choice.

The verse where Lamar says "Don't you know your imperfections is a wonderful blessing from heaven, is where you got it from" is especially powerful, as he is emphasizing that imperfection is a natural and beautiful thing, and that women should not feel the need to cover up their "flaws." The song highlights the double standards women face when it comes to beauty: they are expected to look perfect, but are simultaneously criticized if they look like they're "trying too hard" or wearing too much makeup.

Overall, "No Make-Up" is a refreshing take on beauty and self-love, in a world where self-confidence is often tied to appearance. It encourages women to embrace their natural beauty and be proud of who they are, flaws and all.

Kendrick Lamar is on the verge of superstardom. Extremely talented artist.

First time I heard this song, I thought it was about a women being abused and using makeup to cover it up, to conceal the physical and mental trauma. But then I kept on listening, many, many times, then I realized that the message is that people who do all the mainstream things like putting on vast amounts of makeup or drinking or even smoking or whatever its, are just hiding or covering up a lot of underlying issues, whether it be abuse or depression.
This song is amazing and Kendrick is such on of the best rappers to ever be in the business, no doubt about it.

blueluvmacias

Sorry for the "its" after whatever

themondoshow

I think it's just about women

blueluvmacias

+themondoshow Maybe, I just think this because of the part where he says you don't have to be drunk to have fun and its just the way I interpreted it. But I guess it comes down to the fact that everyone interprets things differently (: (and I know the song continues with Keisha's Song)

Chris From Tha Block

Bullshit. Don't try to rob the meaning of this song. But I respect your view and your opinion ✌🏻️👌🏼

kurainaru

+sxatqepl If you respected it, you wouldn't say "bullshit". Kendrick wants people to have their own views on his songs, just saying.
