Fight the Power
Public Enemy Lyrics

Yet our best trained, best educated, best equipped
Best prepared troops refuse to fight
As a matter of fact, it's safe to say
That they would rather switch than fight

1989 the number, another summer (get down)
Sound of the funky drummer
Music hitting your heart 'cause I know you got soul
(Brothers and sisters, hey)
Listen if you're missing y'all
Swinging while I'm singing (hey)
Giving whatcha getting
Knowing what I know in
While the Black bands sweatin'
And the rhythm rhyme rollin'
Got to give us what we want (uh)
Gotta give us what we need (hey)
Our freedom of speech is freedom of death
We got to fight the powers that be

(Lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
Fight the power (lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
Fight the power (lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
We've got to fight the powers that be

As the rhythm's designed to bounce
What counts is that the rhymes
Designed to fill your mind
Now that you've realized the pride's arrived
We got to pump the stuff to make ya tough
From the heart
It's a start, a work of art
To revolutionize make a change nothing's strange
People, people we are the same
No, we're not the same
'Cause we don't know the game
What we need is awareness, we can't get careless
You say what is this?
My beloved let's get down to business
Mental self defensive fitness
Bum-rush the show
You gotta go for what you know
To make everybody see, in order to fight the powers that be

(Lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
Fight the power (lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
Fight the power (lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
Fight the power (lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
We've got to fight the powers that be

(Lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
(Lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
Fight the power (lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
Fight the power (lemme hear you say)
Fight the power (lemme hear you)
We've got to fight the powers that be

Elvis was a hero to most but he
Elvis was a hero to most (yeah)
Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant sh-- to me you see
Straight out racist that sucker was
Simple and plain
Motherf--- him and John Wayne
'Cause I'm Black and I'm proud
I'm ready, I'm hyped plus I'm amped
Most of my heroes don't appear on no stamps
Sample a look, bet you look and find
Nothing but rednecks for four hundred years if you check
Don't worry, be happy
Was a number one jam
Damn, if I said "You can slap me right here"
(Get it) let's get this party started right
Right on, c'mon
What we got to say (yeah)
Power to the people, no delay
Make everybody see
In order to fight the powers that be

Fight the power (yes, yes, yes, yes y'all)
Fight the power (yes, yes, yes, yes y'all)
Fight the power (yes, yes, yes, yes y'all)
Fight the power (yes, yes)
We've got to fight the powers that be

What have we got to say? (Yeah)
Fight the power (yeah, yeah, yeah)
What have we got to say? (Yeah)
Fight the power (come on)
What have we got to say? (Yeah)
Fight the power (yeah, yeah, yeah)
What have we got to say? (Yeah)
Fight the power (come on)

Yo, check this out man
Ok, talk to me about the future of Public Enemy
The future of Public Enemy gotta

The Enforcement of HIERARCHIES

Hierarchy - A system in which people, groups, or things are ranked one above another according to status or authority.

If the hierarchy is a social system that ranks groups of people, the group at the apex maintains and enforces said hierarchy through economic or cultural coercion.

The coercion is justified through a paradox of SELF-JUSTIFICATION

ECONOMIC HEIRARCHY: disparity of income between classes (upper. middle, lower) and disparity between nations.

GOVERMENTAL HEIRARCHY: the organization of power within a government, and the disparity of power within a government, and the disparity of power between government and people.

SOCIAL HEIRARCHIES: are commonly formed by the vague and powerful idea of traditionalism a belief that can be only justified by SELF gratification.

EMANCIPATORY MOVEMENT: an effort or campaign to secure social rights, political rights, economic rights or equality for a group that does not presently have those rights (legally or culturally) An emancipatory movement is egalitarian and therefore aims to remove or reduce hierarchy.

REACTIONRY MOVEMENT: an effort or campaign to reverse the victories of a previous emancipatory movement. A reactionary movement aims to re-establish a hierarchy.

EMANCIPATION is EGALTARIAN because granting or earning "rights" fosters equality

REACTION is HEIRARCHICAL because removing or denying "rights" before inequality

LEFT WING: refers to egalitarianism

RIGHT WING: refers to hierarchism

Both date back as far as 1789 during the French revolution

LEFT WING: refers to egalitarianism and emancipation, NOT big government.

RIGHT WING: refers to hierarchism and reaction, NOT small government

PATRICRHY, HETAERONOMANITIVITY, CISNORMANTIVITY, WHITE SUPREMACY, CHRISTIAN SUPREMACY are the MAIN forces in todays world.

PATRIARCHY: a social system in which MEN are permitted DOMIANANCE over other genders -- historically, WOMEN
Under patriarchy, men are granted institutionalized privilege's that are NOT granted to other GENDERS.

WHITE SUPREMACY: social system in which white people are given elevated status (legally or culturally)
Under white supremacy, white people are granted institutionalized privilege's or cultural privilege's that are not granted to racial minorities

HETERONORMANTIVITY: social system in which heterosexuality is granted special status as the "norm" sexuality. with heterosexuality people given the privilege's of invisibility and ubiquity

CISNORMATIVITY: social system in which being cisgender is granted the special status "normal" as well as invisibility and ubiquity

Patriarchy is more than sexism, Heteronormativity is more than homophobia, CISNORMATIVITY is more than transphobia, White supremacy is more than racism

Patriarchy, heteronormativity, cisnormativity, and white supremacy are the names (labels) used to describe these hierarchical systems

EGALTARIAN PERSPECTIVE ON PATRIACHY: A social system that enforces hierarchy of genders is morally wrong to human beings, and must be oppose. If patriarchy is enforced, it can also be dismantled ands replaced.

HEIRARCHICAL PERSPACTIVE ON PATRIARCHY: The hierarchy of ganders is morally good, and upsetting this hierarchy is harmful to society (e.g., traditionalist family unit)
Patriarchy is NOT enforced, and therefore does not exist.

NATURAL HEIRARCGY JUSTIFICATION: social hierarchies are "natural" outcomes and are devoid of malicious human manipulation.
Ergo, social hierarchies are not immoral, and dismantling them is harmful and potentially immoral.

SUPERNATURAL HIERACHY JUSTIFICATION: Social hierarchies are supernaturally designed without any human manipulation but most be maintained by human manipulation.
Ergo, social hierarchies are not immoral, and dismantling them is harmful and absolutely immoral.

(BOTH operate under some variant of the "just world fallacy")
