Walpurgisnacht
Faun Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In den Abendhimmel steigen
Heute Nacht die Zauberweisen
Wildes Volk und Liliths Art
Lauernd Winde heimlich fahrt

(Hey yo)
Hört die Geigen, hört die Geigen
(Hey yo)
Die Feuer sind entfacht!
(Hey yo)
Folgt dem Reigen, folgt dem Reigen
In der Walpurgisnacht

(Hey yo)
Hört die Geigen, hört die Geigen
(Hey yo)
Die Feuer sind entfacht!
(Hey yo)
Folgt dem Reigen, folgt dem Reigen
In der Walpurgisnacht

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Faun's song "Walpurgisnacht" speak of a pagan celebration in the night of April 30th, also known as Walpurgis Night. The first stanza mentions the arrival of the sorcerers and Lilith's kind (Lilith being a female demon in Jewish mythology), riding secret winds and reaching for the stars, while wandering through the fires. The second stanza describes the wild and free dance of the night, the circle of participants following the rhythm of the violins and the old magic, until the first light of dawn disrupts their dream-like state. Overall, the song conveys the sense of communion with nature, the release of inhibitions and the celebration of ancient traditions.

For everyone note sure what the lyrics are:

English:
Soar into the evening sky
The magic ways tonight
Wild people and Lilith's art
Lurking winds drive secretly
Let's roam to the fires
Reaching for the stars in a whisper
Good and bad word
Let's carry on and on today
Our dreams will sound in the pastures
And the winds will sing our songs
Let's jump over the fire with the sparks
On the Walpurgis Night!
Hear the violins, hear the violins
(Hey yo)
The fires are lit!
(Hey yo)
Follow the dance, follow the dance
On the Walpurgis night
Fierce in the violin game
Our nightly 'round dance
And we kick wild and free
This old magic
Once only in a large circle
Let's dance that way
Until the first morning light
Our dream tissue breaks
Our dreams will sound in the pastures
And the winds will sing our songs
Let's jump over the fire with the sparks
On the Walpurgis Night!
Hear the violins, hear the violins
(Hey yo)
The fires are lit!
(Hey yo)
Follow the dance, follow the dance
On the Walpurgis night
Hear the violins, hear the violins
(Hey yo)
The fires are lit!
(Hey yo)
Follow the dance, follow the dance
On the Walpurgis night

Hi this is an translation i found. no guarentee of correctness. greetings from germany. grüsse aus deutschland
To the evening sky arise
Magic tunes tonight
Wild folk and Lilith's kind,
Secretly ride the lurking winds.

Let us prowl towards the bonfires
Reach murmuring for the stars,
The good word and also the bad one
We will today carry away and away.

In the willows our dreams will sound
And the winds will sing our songs
Let us jump over the fire with the sparkles
In Walpurga's Night!

Hear the violins, hear the violins,
The fires have been started!
Follow the roundelay, follow the roundelay
In Walpurga's Night.

Boisterous to the playing of the violins
Our nightly roundelay is spinning
And wild and free we join
This ancient magic.

Only once in the great circle
Will we dance in this manner,
Until the first light of the morning
Breaks through the web of our dreams.

In the willows our dreams will sound
And the winds will sing our songs
Let us jump over the fire with the sparkles
In Walpurga's Night!

Hear the violins, hear the violins,
The fires have been started!
Follow the roundelay, follow the roundelay
In Walpurga's Night.

The Havamal says (roughly translated from memory):

"Cattle die,
Kinsmen die,
We ourselves must also die,
But I know one thing that never dies,
One's good reputation."

These are also the final lines of Helvegen by Wardruna, if you didn't already know.

English (The best i can do):
Get in the evening sky
tonight the magic ways,
wild people and Lilith's way
Lurking winch secretly drives.

Let's touch the fires,
murmuring for the stars,
good and bad word
we carry on today and on.

Refrain: In the pastures our dreams will sound

and the winds will sing our songs.
Let's jump over the fire with the sparks,
in the Walpurgis Night!
Listen to the violins, hear the violins,
the fires are kindled!
Follow the dance, follow the dance
in Walpurgis Night.

Impetuous in the game of violins
is our nocturnal 'dance
and we step wild and free
this old magic.

Once only in a big circle
we dance that way,
until the first morning light
our dream fabric breaks.

Refrain: In the pastures our dreams will sound

and the winds will sing our songs.
Let's jump over the fire with the sparks,
in the Walpurgis Night!
Listen to the violins, hear the violins,
the fires are kindled!
Follow the dance, follow the dance
in Walpurgis Night.

I'm from Germany and I am stunned - judging on the comments here - how many people from other countries listen to FAUN.
Hello to you all! You have a great taste in music :)

@ErwinBlonk

I came across them at Dutch fantasy fair Castlefest where they are one of those bands that need to be there or it isn't Castlefest. I have tickets for whenever we can go to concerts again (November 2020 became December 2021). I'm Dutch but I understand German without a problem. Speaking and writing I'm still working on.

@666midnightshadow

Faun is one of my favourite bands since many years ago. I love it.

Walpurgis Night takes place in Germany every year in the night from April 30 to May 1, when all of Germany dances into May.
Traditionally and especially beautiful in the Harz Mountains, when the witches fly to the Brocken to celebrate the legend.

@NefliteArts

Happy Walpurgisnacht :)

@shroomie266

It's the same time as the Celtic holiday Beltane, also known as May Day. I guess everyone's dancing their way into summer.

Que hermosa tradición
