No Envy No Fear
Joshua Radin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some are reaching, few are there
Want to reign from a hero's chair
Some are scared to fly so high
Well this is how we have to try

Have no envy and no fear
Have no envy and no fear

Brother, brother we all see
You're hiding out so painfully
See yourself, come out to play
A lover's rain will wash away

Your envy and your fear
So have no envy and no fear

When your sister turns to leave
Only when she's most in need
Take away the cause of pain
By showing her we're all the same

Have no envy and no fear
Have no envy and no fear

Every day we try to find
Search our hearts and our minds
The place we used to call our home
Can't be found when we're alone

So have no envy, no fear
Have no envy and no fear

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Joshua Radin's song "No Envy No Fear" focus on the themes of confidence, authenticity, and vulnerability. The opening lines "Some are reaching, few are there/ Want to reign from a hero's chair" suggest that many people strive for success and recognition, but few actually achieve it. This may lead to feelings of insecurity and inadequacy, but the next line "Some are scared to fly so high/ Well this is how we have to try" encourages listeners to take risks and pursue their dreams despite their fears.

The chorus "Have no envy and no fear" reinforces this message of self-assurance and encourages listeners to let go of any feelings of jealousy or insecurity. The lines "See yourself, come out to play/ A lover's rain will wash away/ Your envy and your fear" further urge individuals to embrace their true selves and let go of their anxieties.

The lyric "When your sister turns to leave/ Only when she's most in need/ Take away the cause of pain/ By showing her we're all the same" provides a call to action to listeners to support and uplift one another in times of struggle. The song acknowledges the universal struggle to find a sense of belonging and the importance of empathy and understanding in that journey.

Overall, "No Envy No Fear" displays a message of authenticity, self-assurance, and support for others. It encourages listeners to let go of feelings of jealousy and insecurity, embrace themselves fully, and extend a helping hand to others in need.

Heard it on Castle, and it made me tear up. Look up who sings it. Wasn't surprised that it was Joshua Radin. That's two songs of his that are tied to very emotional scenes. "Winter" in Scrubs, and this now in Castle.

My mom used to watch this show when I was little. Now I'm almost 18. I started watching it myself now. Season 1 episode 5 minute 39... I just looked the song up and saw your comment... Idk you and I also didn't know the songwriter but I saw how old your comment is. And I thought that maybe if I post a comment under yours you'll find back to some memories to the song, if not than atleast I brought you back to a beautiful song.
My pleasure dear "stranger".
